The Tai Lopez Show

“Hire people that know stuff you can’t teach” - Tai Lopez

Most people simply fall into the relationships that they have, but today we’re talking about how you can, and why you should, strategically think carefully through who you want around you. Because we have found that humans tend to gravitate to become like the people that they spend the most time with, it is of paramount importance that we surround ourselves with only the best kinds of people, and this episode is showing you how to do that.

In addition, I’m talking about business networking, why too many options makes decisions difficult, and a simple trick to help you out with business networking if you are an introvert.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Hire people that know stuff you can’t teach
  • Have relationships with people who have attributes you lack
  • If you are bad at networking, you need to attach yourself to someone who is extroverted
  • It’s easy to get distracted by too many options
  • It’s not just what you know, it’s who you know
  • Mathematically, big cities have better ideas coming out of them

“A lot of people have paralysis by overanalysis” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Making good money and life decisions is going to be one of the most important skills you will develop. This episode, and this interview with Barry Schwartz, will reveal some of the best ways to make the right decisions, no matter what the decision is about.

Because there are so many options in the world, many people are simply paralyzed and unable to make a decision, because they are under the misunderstanding to an incredibly high level of their happiness is dependant on that decision. Look for good enough, rather than the best, and understand where your happiness really comes from.

The ability to understand yourself, sit down and really come to a deep understanding what is the most important to you, will allow you to be able to take the path that will make you the most happy.

“Look for good enough, instead of the best” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • There is an assumption that more information is better than less, which becomes less and less the case as more information is available
  • In a situation where tons of information is available, people tend to choose based on what is easy to evaluate, versus what is actually best
  • A lot of people have paralysis by overanalysis
  • Look for good enough, instead of the best
  • Too much choice today has given people too high expectations for what the best choice will bring them
  • The first thing you need to do is sit down and define what is the most important to you
  • Hire on the basis of attributes you don’t know how to teach
  • Look for a lot of variety in the types of people who hire
  • Get in the habit of looking for good enough, and then stopping

“Have a varied strategy to life” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Live your life with the constant idea in the back of your mind of what you want written on your tombstone when you die. We all die sometime, some sooner than others, and you simply cannot predict what will happen to you, and how much time you have left.

This is why, regardless of your age, you need to be committed to sucking everything you possibly can out of life. Live it to the fullest, don’t let fear or doubt hold you back, and live in such a way that you can be confident that you will not die with regrets, but knowing you got the most out of your life.

“Stress-reaction is one of the most important success factors in your life” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Don’t be predictable in your approach to life
  • Have a varied strategy to life
  • Conflict resolution is extremely powerful, and you must become a master of conflict resolution
  • Stress-reaction is one of the most important success factors in your life
  • Learn from different people, to get a varied viewpoint on life
  • Diversify how you learn so that you can learn different things from different people
  • Study experts in their field. These are not always the loudest, but look for the most qualified
  • Think of your tombstone when it comes to deciding what kind of life you want

“Diversify who you learn from” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

No matter how important you think that networking is, you’re probably underestimating the real value of it. It’s so valuable that you almost can not place enough importance on it. But the way that you network is incredibly important. There is a right way and a wrong way, and on today’s episode I’m telling you what the right way is so that you get the most out of this essential aspect of business.

First of call, don’t worry about email, get phone numbers whenever you can, so that you can text with people. In 2017, texting is where the attention is, and so that is where you should be too.

Listen to the rest of this episode to get all 7 steps to becoming a better business networker.

“A certain minimum amount of extroversion will make you happier” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • It’s not what you know, it’s who you know
  • A certain minimum amount of extroversion will make you happier
  • If you isolate yourself too much, you will not be as happy as you could be
  • If you want to make money, you’re going to have to network even if you’re an introvert
  • Diversify who you learn from
  • Always hire people who have skills that you can’t teach
  • Organisms that only learn through trial and error tend to die out
  • Anyone who is hard to talk to is probably not worth talking to
  • Think of yourself as a goldminer, going through life looking for the nuggets of truth you can find from anyone

The 7-Steps to Better Business Networking

  1. Realize that you are underestimating the power of business networking
  2. If you are not good at networking, attach yourself to someone who is good at it
  3. Get phone numbers instead of emails
  4. Don’t be crazy about follow ups
  5. Follow the reciprocation rule: Speak their language, respect the way that they communicate, and follow those general rules
  6. Leave them hungry for more of you. Don’t be afraid to let them be the last person who texted you
  7. Go to places that are somewhat unexpected for who you are and what you do. Try to cross-pollinate. Focus less on what the event is, but more on how sharp the people are

“Life should not be about going from one pleasant experience to another” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

If you wrote your autobiography right now, would anyone want to read it?

That is the question you should ask, and the test you should give yourself, to find out if you’re truly leading an adventurous life.

Happiness comes, to some extent, from having a life full of experiences, and the more adventurous you are with your life, the more experiences you will have, and the more stories you will be able to tell.

So don’t shy away from them! Live your life to the fullest, and embrace the uncertainty and excitement that comes from living an adventurous life.

“Don’t love the worst parts of yourself, love the best, and be constantly improving” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Too many people are afraid of adventure, and afraid of almost anything different than their normal routine
  • Life should not be about going from one pleasant experience to another
  • Write out the outline of your autobiography right now and be honest with yourself about if anyone would really want to read it
  • What we are is not fixed, and so we should be in the constant process of expanding it
  • Don’t take unnecessary risk, but also do not be a coward
  • Be the person that you admire
  • Don’t love the worst parts of yourself, love the best, and be constantly improving

“Ask yourself right now if anyone would want to read your biography. If not, you need more adventure” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The sense of adventure seems to have gone out of the world. Too many people are spending all of their efforts in creating the most comfortable, pleasant life possible, when in reality comfort doesn’t bring you nearly the kind of happiness and fulfillment that adventure does.

So ask yourself: If you wrote your autobiography today, would anyone besides your family really want to read it?

If people were honest, the answer would be no for most people in the world, and this is simply because they are not prioritizing adventure high enough in their life.

So prioritize adventure! Say yes to as many experiences as you possibly can, and live your life to the fullest. Come back with stories worth telling, and at the end of it all, a life worth reading about.

“Life should be something that you want to get everything you can possibly get out of it” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The mindset that leads to adventure is lacking in a major way in the world today
  • If you want to know if you are on the right track, right out and honestly outline of your autobiography and ask if anyone else would want to read it
  • Try to live a life of adventure where you don’t have regrets, but you try things and take risks, and come back with great stories
  • Life should be something that you want to get everything you can possibly get out of it
  • Ask yourself right now if anyone would want to read your biography. If not, you need more adventure
  • The essence of adventure is trying things and experimenting with everything
  • Humans are innately risk-averse, but going this route will not lead to as much happiness as a life of adventure
  • What you are is not fixed, but is dynamic and can be expanded and improved on
  • Whatever you admire in others, be that

  • “He who has choice, has trouble.” - Danish proverb
  • With less choice, you have less sorrow and regret, BUT, also less happiness

  • Good decisions come from reducing emotion around high-impact decisions you must make

“Spend 70% of your time on stuff that works now” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The way you spend your time is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. Time is the only thing that you can never get more of, making it your most valuable commodity.

Many people neglect focusing on the things that they know will work, and instead spend all of their time on crazy ideas that may or may not pan out. While it is a good idea to give a certain amount of your time to these crazy ideas, as incredible things can potentially come out of them, but are not especially likely.

This way, with your time allocation at these percentages, you can be confident that you are focusing enough on the things that you know will work, but also have the opportunity to take the great strides forward that crazy ideas can bring you.

“Focus on what you KNOW will work ahead of all else” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Spend 70% of your time on stuff that works now
  • Spend 20% of your time on stuff that you’re pretty sure will work but you’ve never done before
  • Spend 10% of your time on crazy, hair-brained ideas
  • Focus on what you KNOW will work ahead of all else
  • But understand that you will have to continually innovate
  • Never be the first or last to do an idea

Points to Keep In Mind

  • If you want to make money with anything in your life, you need to become a master of systems
  • When everything is unpredictable in your life, you’ll have no brain power left to innovate
  • To make money with social media, start by selling other people’s products
  • Do collaborations with other influencers to get started building your social media
  • Vlogging is the future on all social media platforms. Tell your story
  • Smart work always beats hard work. But do both
  • Part of execution is strategy
  • When something is good enough, launch it. Then, innovate and improve as you go
  • If you don’t launch with errors, you waited too long
  • Spend 70% of your time on stuff that works now, 20% on things that you’re pretty sure will work but you’ve never done, and 10% on hair-brained, crazy ideas

It probably does not make sense for marijuana to be criminalized to the extent it is, as compared with alcohol

(click to tweet)

We’re taking on a controversial topic today: marijuana, LSD, and psychedelics. We’re digging into the good, the bad, and the ugly of all of it.

Something that is important to keep in mind about marijuana is that, because it has been illegal for so long, we do not have good quality controls in place, nor even especially good ways for measuring the THC levels, etc. So while many argue that it is less harmful than alcohol, these other aspects on the whole contribute to the danger of the substance overall.

Alcohol has been carefully studied and graded, so that we know how much we can have. Not so with marijuana, making it dangerous

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • We do not yet have good ways of measuring the amount of THC, grading, etc, to know if we can drive or not
  • Alcohol has been carefully studied and graded, so that we know how much we can have. Not so with marijuana, making it dangerous
  • Marijuana also does not have good quality controls in place
  • It probably does not make sense for marijuana to be criminalized to the extent it is, as compared with alcohol
  • The brain is still sort of the “wild west” when it comes to medicine, so in a lot of ways we don’t really understand a lot of potential side effects, so it is important to be incredibly careful and cautious

The future of living healthy is now, so learn about it on this episode.

Any diet that overly stresses you is going to be bad for you in the long run

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The entire world of medicine, especially in anti-aging, is about to change
  • Any diet that overly stresses you is going to be bad for you in the long run
  • Humans weren’t made to graze, so it’s better to have specific set times when you eat meals
  • Listen to your body, listen to the way you feel after eating certain things, pay attention, and adjust what you’re eating based on that
  • There need to be more or better quality and quantity control in substances like marijuana
  • While there are clear exceptions to most rules, you still have to look at the data everywhere

Today’s episode is about how to make the right decision in difficult circumstances, how to use regret minimization, and why positive incentives are more powerful than negative incentives.

“Practical intelligence is the most important kind of intelligence” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The skill of the making good decisions is one of the most important skills to master in your life. There are several ways to go about it, but one of the best strategies is to look at the different courses, and ask which way has the most potential for regret, and then take the other one.

Regrets are one of the worst things you can have, so if you live you life with an eye towards always looking for the way to have the least of them as you get older, you will be happy with your decisions as you go.

“Use the idea of regret minimization to make decisions: Go the way that will leave you with less regrets” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Practical intelligence is the most important kind of intelligence
  • You should never take one side of an argument without being able to argue the other side as well
  • The more important, the less intelligent and objective we become
  • Use the idea of regret minimization to make decisions: Go the way that will leave you with less regrets
  • The number one regret of most people when they get older is not spending enough time around the people they love

“Humans learn through absorption” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

This is a roundup of the best moments from throughout the week on the Tai Lopez Show. We talk about diets, whether or not veganism is healthy, how to pick the perfect diet for you, how to “date” a business idea before “marrying” it, why pre-sale is so important to business, how to look at the “risk adjusted return” on a business idea, and much more.

Whether your goal is to turn into a fat burning machine, make your life overall more healthy, or build a strong business from the ground up, today’s episode will help you on that journey.

“It’s not the strongest or the smartest who survive, but the most adaptable” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • It’s predicted that 100 major brands will be bankrupt in the next year
  • It’s not the strongest or the smartest who survive, but the most adaptable
  • It’s better to kill a business early than drag it out for years and then have it die
  • “Date” business ideas before marrying them
  • Pre-sale your business idea to find out if it’s actually a good idea or not
  • Humans learn through absorption
  • Depending on the field, technical knowledge is often obsolete
  • Look at the “risk adjusted return” of ideas: How much risk is involved, for how much potential return
  • In marketing, you need to learn how to be ethically persuasive without being manipulative
  • The psychology of selling is probably just as important as the logistics
  • Find a way to gain some success early on, to spur you on to work harder
  • There is more opportunity right now for someone who is poor to work there way up than there was in the past
  • Everyone needs to experiment with their diet to find out what specific combination is right for them

“If you make too much money too fast, you might not really know what you’re doing, and then lose it all” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

If you try to make too much money too quickly, you probably won’t know what you’re doing, and could easily lose it all. That’s why I recommend a special strategy when it comes to increasing your income, to make sure you’re always headed in the right direction, but in a way that is safe for your future.

Today’s episode is about that strategy, to make sure that you are gaining wealth in a smart way.

“Try to make $100/month. After you can do that 3 months in a row, 10X it. Rinse and repeat” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Don’t try to get super rich super fast, just make sure that you’re continually making more money all the time
  • Try to make $100/month. After you can do that 3 months in a row, 10X it. Rinse and repeat
  • It is possible to make money too fast. Focus on steadily making more all of the time instead of skipping steps

  • If a business isn’t doing too well, don’t be ashamed to shut it down. It’s much better than dragging it out for years
  • Pre-sell to test your idea
  • Humans learn through absorption
  • Don’t only learn from one person, because each person will have different strengths that you need to learn from
  • Focus on things where you have an unfair advantage

“The biggest fear you should have in life is having regrets at the end of it” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

There is a serious lack of perspective in much of the world today. When it comes to the things people are worried about, what they stress over, what keeps them up at night, and how much “risk” they think they can take, there is often a profound lack of perspective.

Today’s episode is a short reminder that most people in 1st world countries have it extremely well, and that what you should fear far more than the risk of trying something and failing, is the risk of not trying something and having regrets at the end of your life.

So live your life with a regret-minimizing attitude toward your decisions. Use the idea of getting to the end of your life with as few regrets as possible as your guiding light when it comes to making decisions, and just remember that even if you feel like you’re taking a risk, if you look at the potential downside, it’s probably pretty great compared with most people in world and throughout history.

“Wherever you are in life, be able to rewire your mind to proper thinking and perspective on reality” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • If you think you’ve had a rough life, just know that someone has had it worse than you, and been more successful than you
  • Life could be so much worse. Keep that in mind, to make you more thankful and give you more drive to make much of what you have
  • Keep perspective on your life
  • Keep perspective on how much risk you’re actually taking. Chances are, it’s less than you think
  • Don’t focus on minor issues, focus on major issues
  • Wherever you are in life, be able to rewire your mind to proper thinking and perspective on reality
  • The biggest fear you should have in life is having regrets at the end of it

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The future of diets is in-depth customization toward specific gene makeups
  • Veganism is a great diet to clean you up, if you have been eating a lot of less clean foods
  • While veganism can be a good thing for a short amount of time, to clean out your system, a lot of people have difficulties with the diet in the long run
  • When you are stuck on one diet for a long time, your chances of missing certain important nutrients goes up
  • Look at dieting as something that you rotate, moving through different types, to not only find what works best for you, but also to make sure you are developing any deficiencies by following one diet for too long
  • Listen to your body very carefully, to discover what works best for you in a diet
  • Bad animals sources are worse for you than bad vegan sources
  • The secret to fat loss is to:
    • Not have your blood sugar levels rise throughout the day
    • Have no period of time during the day when those blood sugar levels spike
  • Accomplish the above by:
    • Consuming the equivalent of 2 teaspoons of ceylon cinnamon per day
    • Consuming bitter melon extract
  • Any supplement that claims to be for fat loss should accomplish that not by jacking up your central nervous system, but by instead controlling your blood sugar levels
  • The best beginner diet is one you can stick with
  • Cut out any oil that has been oxidized, heated, or pressurized
  • Try to find and eat local foods whenever possible

If you are struggling with goals, procrastination, or motivation just work on one thing: Imagination.

One of the biggest complaints people have is the ability to find motivation. It’s so easy to procrastinate and just wish things would happen for you. The trick to overcoming procrastination is all in your mind.

You need to use your imagination. Create a vision of where you want to be, and then make a plan and start taking steps toward where you see yourself. A good rule is the 50/50 rule. Spend 50% of your day imagining, and the other 50% of your day doing.

It’s important to get out there and really take action. If you just dream, it’ll never come into fruition. If you don’t dream you’ll never get the motivation. It’s a simple cycle to get started, and if you really imagine it happening you’ll become so excited you can’t stop yourself from making it happen.

On this episode of the Tai Lopez show, Tai breaks down the steps you need to get things moving and how to tell if a dream is really achievable or if you are just experiencing the American Idol Syndrome.

Download this episode now to see how you can get a jump start on making your dreams a reality.

When you start imagining you must start doing at the same time.

The Cliff Notes:

  • Everyone struggles with procrastination and lacking goals.
  • Procrastination is solved by having a vision of the future.

  • When you start imagining you must start doing at the same time.
  • Tai spends half the day imagining, and the other half doing it.
  • You have to know your field to know if you can really succeed.
  • Pro athletes have to be born a certain way.
  • Most things you do in life, it doesn’t matter how you are born to be successful.

Almost any business can make a million bucks. Anybody can do it.

The biggest mistake people make when they decide to start a business is that they start too big. They invest everything they have in one idea, and hope everything goes well.

This is setting you up for failure.

If you look at the best investors, they spread themselves out. They invest in many little projects and whatever starts to take off is where they put their concentration.

You don’t have to have a lot of money to start investing in your own business. In fact, you can start any business for under a hundred dollars but testing the waters and slowly growing into something bigger.

On the off chance that you do have a lot of money to invest in something, don’t throw it all at starting a project. Take a good chunk of money and use it to educate yourself. In order to truly be successful you have to understand every part of the industry you are going into.

Without the knowledge to succeed, you can’t succeed.

On this episode of The Tai Lopez Show, Tai sits down with Zach and Rome to discuss various ways you can begin an entrepreneur endeavor. They also discuss current politics, sports, and dive into Zach’s love life.

Download this episode today if you want to learn how you can start a business on a shoestring budget and how you can start being your own boss instantly.

You can get anything you want, you just can’t get it instantly... But you can build up to it.

Consider this a sort of “listen in” on a mentor call with me and one of my mentors, and make sure that you are actively looking for your own mentors, to help take your life to the next level.

  • If you surround yourself with too many distractions, you will eventually fall for the temptation to be distracted
  • Mastery requires repetition

“If people are high in narcissism they feel entitled to a larger slice of the pie.” - Dr. David Buss

(click to tweet)

If you haven’t heard of it before, there’s something called the dark triad. It’s a test that analyzes your exploitative personality traits: Narcissism, Psychopathy, and Machiavellianism. These traits seems to be on the rise in today’s society.

In fact Tai had models who auditioned for his clothing line take the test, and had his staff not call back anyone who scored more than a 60%. As a result they had to turn away 70% of the models, which is much higher than normal.

On this episode of The Tai Lopez, Tai and Dr. David Buss dive into what is making these exploitative traits increase. Download this episode today to see what is contributing to this epidemic.

In the year 1900 90% of society lived in rural or small villages. Today it’s switched.

(click to tweet)

The Cliff Notes:

  • The dark triad has increased in recent years.
  • Narcissism is not being able to see other people’s side and feeling entitled.
  • Machiavellianism is being two faced.
  • Psychopathy is a lack of empathy.
  • In 1900 most people lived in small societies, now most people live in big cities.
  • In cities people can escape consequences.
  • Social media is bringing light to the narcissism today.
  • People in the midwest are less likely to be narcissistic.

“In large cities, people can escape the reputational consequences of treating others poorly, which contributes to the rise of some poor character traits” - Dr. David Buss

(click to tweet)

Today I’m interviewing one of the authors I quote the most, Dr. David Buss. Dr. Buss, wrote the book “Evolutionary Psychology.” Were talking about some of the taboo subjects that people get uncomfortable to talk about: How do you define “mate-worthiness?”

While the topic makes people uncomfortable, it is a very important one to get into. What are the factors of “mate-worthiness?” Can you affect them, to make yourself a better candidate? What do different people look for?

We’re getting into all of these questions and more, plus debuting “Tai’s Diary,” where I talk about my life at the moment, what I’m up to, and the thoughts on my mind right now. Enjoy!

“For a long-term relationship to work, you need to prioritize intelligence levels” - Dr. David Buss

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • We have evolved a few different strategies toward mating, depending on our needs
  • People tend to select one specific mating strategy, depending on aspects about them such as religion, how they were raised, what is important to them, etc
  • When there is a surplus of women, the mating strategy tends to shift away from monogamy. When there is a surplus of men, the opposite is the case
  • A huge percentage of all violence is related to mating
  • The amount of choice in the world today is what makes decisions difficult
  • Most people have to make compromises in exactly everything you ideally want in a mate
  • The modern world has created situations that actually favor some psychopathic behavior, which could be some of the cause of the rise of it today
  • In large cities, people can escape the reputational consequences of treating others poorly, which contributes to the rise of some poor character traits
  • For a long-term relationship to work, you need to prioritize intelligence levels
  • You need to have good insight into your own mate-value, so that you know who and where you may need to compromise
  • Personal hygiene is one of the easiest ways to increase your own level of mate-worthiness
  • Don’t underestimate the value of going to the gym in order to achieve greater mate-worthiness
