  • Be careful of any cryptos under 100 Bitcoin of volume
  • This is unlike any other market because the people closest to the news aren’t mainstream outlets (use Telegram app for leaks)
  • All problems are rooted in stubbornness: sensitivity, sensual, stupidity, and self-importance
  • Prevent injuries; Lebron James spends $1 million/year on his body; spend the $10 on a mousepad that prevents carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Not all cryptocurrencies need to be mined
  • People aren’t hiding who they are in the beginning of marriage; rather, it takes time for the full picture to be revealed

A new year means time for a new you.

As 2017 comes to a close, we must take a moment to reorient our mindset before heading into the new year. What goals did we have for 2017 that we accomplished? And then what about the ones we weren’t able to? Why was this so? And how can we change our mindset so that we aren’t saying this same thing one year from now?

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are making a call to arms: how do you get the most out of your upcoming year? Laziness, procrastination, organization, conscientiousness: these are all the things we must be most mindful of in the upcoming year.

“I saw Hitler. It was outside. I thought he was crazy. The way he talked. Anyone who sees him knows he’s crazy.”

You can either learn history from a primary or secondary source.

With a secondary source, you’ll get the distanced bullet points: what year the war started, how many people died, which political parties ruled, and all those other dry details you need for your history test. With a primary source, however, you’re able to gain direct access into the emotion of that time period.

And right now, in the year 2017, the number of primary resources available for World War II is becoming increasingly smaller.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are fortunate to be joined by a primary source, Tai’s grandmother. At 99 years old, she has lived through multiple world wars, and today we are gathering her firsthand account of the global climate. Her wisdom and insight on political and social issues has us thinking about how to see the world in the right way.

“All wars are terrible. Maybe you could get together, but you couldn’t with Hitler. He thought he could win the world.”

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Tai’s grandma’s best friend was Melita Maschmann, author of Account Rendered: A Dossier on my Former Self
  • There were close but unsuccessful assassination attempts on Hitler
  • Having students teach each other in groups, based on talent-level, has stronger education benefits
  • Language should be taught with speaking and understanding content, not by learning grammar rules
  • The elites were able to bypass the draft, lower socioeconomic classes were the ones drafted
  • People aren’t hiding who they are in the beginning of marriage; rather, it takes time for the full picture to be revealed

“Bloomberg’s been talking about how crypto’s worth nothing for the past 4 years. That’s not playing out well for them right now.” - William Duplessie

Bitcoin took a dip last week.

But now it’s back to where it was, and the skeptics return to silence. As the market validates that cryptocurrency is here to stay, we must continue our education to stay one step ahead of the trends.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by Dan Fleyshman, William Duplessie, and Ben Greenburg to discuss the future of cryptocurrency. Their range of expertise in the crypto world spreads from business to technology, and on today’s episode they review what coins to look out for as we approach the new year.

“6 times this year, Bitcoin has crashed has 30%. And every single time, it increased from 70% to 260% within three days.” - Dan Fleyshman

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Fiat money is currency that a government has declared to be legal tender, but it is not backed by a physical commodity
    • People are innately scared by these but blockchain technology is fixing that
  • You can bet for or against cryptocurrency
  • Not all cryptocurrencies need to be mined but there is a shortage of machinery required to do the mining
  • The main problem with cryptocurrency right now is the exchange networks are slow
    • 13 million new Coinbase accounts in the past year, and 1.3 million customer support complaints on backorder
  • Technical analysis applies to crypto markets because they aren’t mature
  • Increased volatility - the books are small because the blockchain can only support a certain amount of traffic
  • Decentralize your thinking by not getting your information from mainstream media

Becoming the best is not rocket science.

If you hang around someone great and ask questions, then pretty soon you will be adopting their habits via osmosis. This is how humans learn, but the education system makes us believe learning has to involve classrooms and memorization.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are taking a close look at how to be great. It’s something we all want but don’t know how to achieve. The good news is that the formula is simple but requires that we check our egos at the door and reflect honestly on why we haven’t achieved greatness just yet. Once we complete this step, the sky’s the limit.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Recognize who is great and take notes of what they did to get to their level
  • All problems are rooted in stubbornness; there are 4 types of stubbornness
    • Sensitivity: having too thin of skin
    • Sensual: being addicted to feeling good
    • Stupidity: not having the IQ to seek out advice/expert opinion
    • Self-importance: thinking your way is the best
  • Prevent injuries: Lebron James spends $1 million/year on his body; spend the $10 on a mousepad that prevents carpal tunnel syndrome
  • The school system doesn’t teach us how to organize our day
  • Conscientiousness is most important, defined as a combination of organization, diligence, prudence, and perfectionism

“Who knows what the fundamentals are? This isn’t traditional trading. You can’t be a value investor in the way you can on Wall Street.” - William Duplessie

Making money from cryptocurrency is daunting.

Sure, you can create an account on Coinbase, do the the traditional Bitcoin buy, and watch the money trickle into your account. But to maximize the opportunity that exists right now with crypto requires extensive education.

Even then, distilling data charts and juggling the news articles is an enormous to-do. From market cap to total volume, making sense of these numbers and conducting the additional qualitative research can send an eager investor into a spiral of not knowing what to think.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by cryptocurrency-expert, William Duplessie. William is an Associate at Science Blockchain, and his deep understanding of digital currency spreads across many domains. As he says, it’s all he “eats, sleeps, and breathes.” And in today’s episode, we are fortunate to learn his strategies on making sense of today’s crypto-world.

    • Eos will be the first scalable blockchain because of it uses proof of stake, not proof of work
  • Beware of cryptocurrency ponzi schemes (Ethereum cash)
    • These are bad players taking advantage of a new industry, but will slowly disappear
  • George Soros almost bankrupt England with arbitrage tactics
  • Don’t ever invest more than you can afford to lose

The Bitcoin headlines are taking over.

What was just $7,000 last month is now over $13,000. People are making millions, and the growth isn’t stopping anytime soon. Cryptocurrency is the new gold rush, and it is up to you to make the most out of it.

How to do this is through education. Blockchain, wallets, ledgers, ICOs - the terms surrounding cryptocurrency are dense and require research, education, and expert opinion to fully understand the entire landscape.

That is why on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, I have brought on cryptocurrency-expert  William Duplessie. Since first discovering cryptocurrency in 2012, William has fully committed himself to understanding and analyzing the world of cryptocurrency. Now an Associate at Science Blockchain and a collaborator with the crypto-guru Brock Pierce, it’s all he “thinks, eats, and breathes.” In today’s episode, Duplessie shares his views on where cryptocurrency is headed, what are the best tools and products to use, and how to make the most out of your investment.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Cryptocurrency isn’t equity or stock, it’s more like gold in that its limited in its circulation

Making money is not an IQ thing.

If it were, the valedictorians would be the richest people in the world. But that’s not the case; in fact, it’s the opposite. The wealthiest entrepreneurs in the world are the ones who abandoned the traditional education system to go on to pave their own road.

So, what determines wealth if it isn’t intelligence?

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we answer this question by reviewing some of the best moments from this past week. From being methodical about your daily routine to figuring out the best way to learn from others, the tips and tricks discussed in today’s highlight reel will help you catapult your business and wealth to the next level.

A productive daily routine is difficult to achieve.

We all wake up in the morning, check our phones, and then go about our days doing the best we can. But then we finish our day and go to bed thinking: was that really the best I could do?

Your daily life should be composed of tasks dedicated to either maintaining the life you’re living or trying to improve your life for some future date. If you’re disappointed with your daily routine, it’s because you aren’t attending to this rule. And if you believe you are, some trait is preventing you from seeing the picture clearly.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are taking a close look at productivity. How can you squeeze the most juice out of your day? The first step is to be honest with yourself. Self-deception will disguise laziness as procrastination or stubbornness as ‘your opinion.’ So, before listening to this podcast, take a second to check your ego at the door and get ready to make the changes required to take your daily routine to the next level.

“Emotional intelligence is knowing how to control your own emotions in sync with also reading how others feel about you.” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Great marketing requires a storytelling finesse.

This is because audiences are smart, and can detect the tricks you might be trying to play. Say your video’s call-to-action is too explicit; a viewer will see that and turn the other way. Or if the product’s need is not rooted in enough emotional weight, the potential customer might not feel incentivized enough to purchase. Whatever the case may be, the cure to this is to tell relatable stories.

A relatable story is an emotional story. From the failure stories to the love stories, if the core of the messaging is rooted in something that the viewer or reader can relate to, the storytelling becomes much easier. No longer are you tiptoeing through the tripwires in the potential customer’s head; he or she is on the same page and will inevitably feel motivated to buy your product.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are taking a close look at relatability. In a conversation with my brother, we discuss all things related to storytelling, marketing, and interpersonal relations. How can you be more relatable in each of these domains is the question we answer in today’s episode.

  • When trying to get what you want, present your need in a way that people can relate to
  • The Kardashians are successful because their family dysfunction, at its core, is relatable
  • Love is the most relatable theme in any marketing or storytelling material
  • Everyone can relate to being hurt, and the vulnerability that creates
  • You have to make the person see yourself in your shoes
  • People relate to the failure story; another reason to launch businesses and fail, it will help you relate in the future
  • Emotional intelligence is the soft skills, far different than the IQ they teach in school
  • If you’re ever losing the crowd, say “I want to tell a story about someone close to me who betrayed me”
  • Optimism bias causes a person to believe that they are at a lesser risk of experiencing a negative event compared to others

“We evolved in small groups, and all groups have status hierarchies. From an evolutionary perspective, reproductively relevant resources always accrue to those with the highest status.” - Dr. David Buss

(click to tweet)

It’s no secret that a greater understanding of people will lead you to more success in business.

From hiring to collaborating to managing to pitching, almost every touchpoint of business involves interacting with people. And if you’re not interacting, you are most likely working on your product that will ultimately affect or influence people. Thus, a greater understanding of human behavior and psychology will undoubtedly help you take your business to the next level.

But how you choose to learn about human behavior is what will determine your level of knowledge and ultimately separate you from the competition. And that is why we are so focused on evolutionary psychology. To study evolutionary psychology is to understand the human being from the core; how did we evolve over the past hundreds of millions of years to be the way we are today.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by world-renowned evolutionary psychologist, Dr. David Buss. Professor Buss is the author of The New Science of the Mind, and currently teaches at the University of Texas at Austin. He has previously taught at Harvard and the University of Michigan, and today he explains how the principles of evolutionary psychology can be applied to business.

It’s your duty to find your superpower and figure out a way to market it to the world.

But laziness, procrastination, and every other excuse in the book prevent us from achieving that. We tell ourselves stories that are convincing enough in the moment to justify sitting on the couch instead of burning the midnight oil chipping away at our dreams. But our awareness of this pattern is the first step to changing the reality.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we have an audio diary that covers the mechanics of this behavior. If you struggle to find motivation or want to solve your laziness, then today’s episode will not only shed light on what wires need to be recircuited but how you can go about fixing them.

Everyone has an opinion on Bitcoin.

Some think it’s fairy dust, and others feel like they know the magnitude of what’s coming. Regardless of who is speaking, a cryptocurrency conversation will have a range of perspective and conviction.

But the truth is, that to understand cryptocurrency, you have to immerse yourself in conversations with expert opinions. They are the ones closest to the action, so their perspective is the one we must check all rumors and news headlines against.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by crypto-expert, Jeremy Gardner. Since 2012, Jeremy has had front-row seats to all things crypto-related. He is the founder of the decentralized prediction blockchain Augur, which at a market-cap of $300 million is said to be the most undervalued crypto-project in Silicon Valley. He is also the brains behind San Francisco’s ‘Crypto Castle,’ a residence for crypto-experts to live, meet, and converse. • Unless your thesis on the technology (as opposed to the value of the technology) changes, you should always be rebalancing your portfolio
  • Algorithmic trading is the only way to trade; you will get burnt on sentiment analysis and social media alone, you need machine-learning
  • Only invest in long-term value

  • To be able to sell to the masses, you have to understand people’s false beliefs and shatter them
    • The three false beliefs people have are about: 1) their need for the product, 2) their internal ability to use the product, and then 3) how external factors will influence their use of the product
  • Get the customer to trust you, then your company, then the product (in that order)
  • Augmented reality will empower the older, wiser generations to help inform the machine-learning software to grow smarter

“Augmented reality will eliminate the fear of others and make the world a better place.” - Jay Samit

(click to tweet)

Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed augmented reality technologies develop.

But products like Google Glass and QR codes made us skeptical of whether this technology had a place in the real world. Then there was Pokémon Go, which caught the world’s attention, made over $1 billion dollars, and made any AR-related doubts vanish from our minds.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by augmented reality-expert Jay Samit. He is the Independent Vice Chairman of Deloitte and the bestselling author of Disrupt You! Jay joins us today to widen our understanding of augmented reality. He shares what the latest developments are in AR technologies, and how they will undoubtedly influence our industries and lifestyles in the years to come.

Also you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“We’ll now have more control over our environment because our environment will conspire with us to succeed. Not against us.” - Jay Samit

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Augmented reality isn’t just about adding to the environment, it’s about subtracting
  • An example of the implementation of AR in an industry is the airplane cargo-packers
    • AR glasses would make it 3D tetris and save airlines billions in jet fuel
  • AR softwares can tell if a person’s gait is suspicious or body temperature is high (risk for ebola)
  • Think about opportunity first and then worry about privacy
  • Tinder goggles would make profile apparent in real-life (ex: halo hologram above person)
  • Machine-learning allows the software to get smarter with each new data point
    • AR would allow people to always have access to all of mankind’s knowledge up until that point.

“If the PC changed the world. And then the Web changed the world. And then mobile changed the world. Then augmented reality is exponentially bigger because all of those feed into it.” - Jay Samit

It wasn’t just the miners who got rich during the Gold Rush.

It was the apparel companies, the shovel manufacturers, the restaurants and bars in the area; with any trillion dollar industry comes the opportunity for many million dollar businesses to pop up. Augmented reality is the next trillion dollar industry, and it’s time you carve out your portion of the pie.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by Jay Samit, the bestselling author of Disrupt You! to educate us on how to disrupt the augmented reality world. He is the Independent Vice Chairman of Deloitte, and his experience in technology spans across many different industries. His insights on how technology disrupts industry will help you carve out your million-dollar niche in augmented reality before anyone else does.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Pick a competitor-free industry and stake your claim as the world’s expert
  • When dinosaurs fight for turf, be the mammal that sneaks in and carves out a corner
  • Augmented reality isn’t just about adding to the environment, it’s about subtracting
  • Examples of new AR technologies: software that can tell if a person’s gait is suspicious or if body temperature is high/at risk for ebola
  • Big opportunity with AR to bypass employee training and equip new-hires with technology that makes them a professional (ex: electricians)
  • Lots of opportunity in the UI/UX of AR-technologies
  • Moore’s Law says the price of AR or any tech will halve each year
  • AR integrates perfectly with cryptocurrency

“Pay attention to trends. What I do know, is that I’ve never met somebody born in April who I haven’t gotten along with. It’s not 100% perfect science, but there is something there.” - Patrick Bet-David

(click to tweet)

Hiring is one of the greatest challenges in growing a business.

How do you know who to hire? What defines a good candidate? Is it focus? Charisma? Technical ability? Obviously it depends on the position and ideally you'd want the best of all worlds, but that’s hard to achieve and compromise has to be made.

So the real challenge becomes understanding people. To hire right requires knowing what types of people are required to succeed, what types of people you’re currently employing, and thus, what type of person you need to hire.

On today's episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by Patrick Bet-David, Founder and CEO of PHP Agency, and also the face of his personal brand Valuetainment. Patrick fled Iran at age 10 and stayed in a refugee camp in Germany before eventually landing in America. He now runs a multi-million dollar insurance company, and today he provides us with his views on the types of people required to launch and grow a successful company.

“The name isn’t important. What is important is the story behind the name.”- Patrick Bet-David

(click to tweet)

The opportunity for your personal brand is greater than the opportunity for your business' brand.

The people who ask, "Do you really need both?" are failing to see this truth. With a personal brand, you are able to differentiate yourself from the competition in a wildly unique way. The landscape caters to individuality; it’s a platform for self-expression. However, with a business’ brand, the story behind the product or service inevitably gets diluted by the fact that it is a product or service and not an individual.

This means that succeeding with both brands requires different sets of skills. Maybe you’re shy and don’t believe you can be in front of a camera promoting who you are or what you represent. Or maybe it’s the opposite, that you aren’t sure what the story is behind your product or service, or if you do, you don’t know how to tell it.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we are joined by Patrick Bet-David, who has succeeded with both his personal and business brands. A child-refugee from Iran, Bet-David ultimately landed in America where he founded his insurance company, PHP Agency, which now employs over 6,000 people. And in more recent years, with the rise of the Internet and social media, Bet-David knew he had to launch his personal brand, Valuetainment, which has 400,000+ subscribers on YouTube.

Patrick discusses the challenges one faces when growing a business or brand in today’s episode. From selling such an unsexy product like insurance figuring out who to hire when growing his team, Patrick Bet-David has a lot to teach us and we are hear to listen and learn.

  • Use personality questionnaires for hiring (ex: STAR); most will tell you the same thing
  • When interviewing, find the interviewees point of motivation to take action

“It’s not hard to see the future. Getting the timing right is the part you need to get right.” - Brock Pierce

(click to tweet)

The golden rule is: Only invest in things you understand.

And with cryptocurrency, what needs to be understood is more complex than the average investment decision. It’s not a company’s stock or sector of the economy you’re betting on. It’s an entirely new monetary system you’re saying that people will adopt.

This extra dimension to the investment adds research. Terms like ‘blockchain’ and ‘ICO’ are things we must know. Understanding when and where to use virtual vs. physical wallets is part of the investor’s responsibility. And trying to learn why Bitcoin can go from $7,000 to now $14,000 in one month will separate you from the other crypto-investors.

Fortunately, we live in an age where we can seek out expert opinions, and today we are joined by the Chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation and Cofounder of Blockchain Capital, Brock Pierce. Brock has been in the digital currency game for the past 20 years, and on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, he covers everything cryptocurrency-related.

Don’t forget, you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“A billionaire isn’t someone with a billion dollars. A billionaire is someone who has positively impacted the lives of a billion people.”- Brock Pierce

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Cryptocurrency technically defined is a monetary system based on math and cryptology governed on a peer-to-peer basis.
    • It works on a blockchain technology - which is a decentralized and distributed digital ledger, used to record transactions across many computers. This makes it so that the record cannot be altered retroactively.
  • If cryptocurrency reinvents money, then ‘money is power’ will shift to ‘technology is power’ or ‘consciousness is power.’
  • Easier to think about cryptocurrency as digital gold or Gold 2.0 because it isn’t good for transactions (yet)
  • Cryptocurrency is a bubble but so is everything else
  • Currently in an emotional market based on sentiment being driving force of prices
  • The blockchain will bring security to Data Transport Protocol
  • Read the Innovator’s Dilemma to learn how the incumbent gets disrupted by the startup
  • If buying your first coins, use exchanges (these are your on/off-ramps into this world)
  • Once you have procured coin, move it to both a virtual wallet and a physical (hardware) wallet
  • For virtual, think about desktop/mobile needs for security purposes
  • For physical wallets, have a backup placed in another location

“Tell a story. Each of you needs to become a Steven Spielberg. Someone who can tell the amazing story that is the movie of your brand.” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Marketing is storytelling. And with your website, the story must be simple.

Who are you? What product are you selling? Why are you selling it? These are the questions floating around in the visitor’s head, so it is the company’s responsibility to provide those answers on their website.

But so many times I visit a company’s website and am blown away by how they choose to bombard me with information I don’t need.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we teach you how to make money from your website by going through a number of followers’ websites and diagnosing the issues with each. From copywriting to photography choices to overall site layout/design, the opportunity to tell a killer story requires executing on all fronts, and that’s why I’m here to help.

“Education is the most outdated part of the global system. Online education is the future. Your kids and grandkids are going to look at you and say, “You didn’t learn online? You went to schools and buildings? What’s wrong with you?” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • A good story is one that can be easily understood
  • Showcase what you sell and the faces behind the company
    • Kim Kardashian’s Instagram posts get twice the engagement when she shows her face
    • Studies show 6-month olds track human eye movement
  • You have to sell reward not pain
  • Don’t be self-important, Apple and Amazon don’t have a big logo on their website
  • Use video: Google conducted a survey that by 2020 all internet activity will be watching video
  • ‘Before and after’ imagery sells, especially with weight-loss products
  • About Us section needs to be about the person, not the company
  • Nobody ever woke up thinking “I need to register today,” so don’t use the CTA ‘Register Now’
  • You have to sell high-appetite products
  • Robotic income is when you make money online while doing something else
  • Use Alibaba or Amazon fulfillment for a white-label, drop-shipping brand

“You don’t have to get customers with Google Trends. If it’s up and coming, that means everyone is Googling it. If you create the product, you can make a ton of money.” - Neil Patel

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Use Google Trends to find what holes are in the market with little competition
  • Get certified on Google Adwords and use YouTube to learn how to do Facebook Ads
  • Don’t act like a stranger (“Nice to e-meet you!”) in cold-emails to CEO. If he/she forwards internally, the new point-of-contact will assume you two know each other
  • Establish relationships with banks by paying 90-100% of your credit card payment. This will make the time when you need to do a CLI (credit card line increase) easier
  • For those under 18, get authorized on your parents/relatives’ cards to inherit rapport with banks
  • In marketing, tell the stories necessary to break people’s false beliefs
  • Introverts can still make great content despite what they might think.

“I thought if we’re a software company, then we’re just a commodity that will eventually get priced out. We needed to build something bigger, where people felt part of a movement.” - Russell Brunson

(click to tweet)

The movement behind a product is more important than the product itself.

Take Apple for example. Yes they create some of the sleekest and most well-functioning products in the space, but it's not the iPhones and Macbooks that fueled the tech-giant's rise to what is now valued at over $900 billion. It's what having an iPhone or Macbook says about you.

This is the reality of today's business landscape. Brands operate as tribes, and if you own the brand's product, then you are behind that tribe’s movement or message. You’re wearing the ID badge that tells others you speak the language of that tribe, and if you see others with the same product as you, you know you can have a conversation with them.

On today’s episode, we have Russell Brunson, owner of ClickFunnels.com, talking about brand tribalism. In the early days of Russell’s launch, he had ClickFunnels enthusiasts create a tribe called “FunnelHackers.” Since then, Russell has helped business owners spell out the message of their tribe as well through the use of his tool.

Don’t forget, you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“I’m a big pattern guy. If I see a pattern, I look at the pieces to understand the elements of the movement. Then I know how to amplify it.” - Russell Brunson

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • If you don’t create a movement behind your brand, you will lose to those who do
  • Apply Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: 1) physiological, 2) safety, 3) love/belonging, 4) esteem, and 5) self-actualization to your brand
  • Be on the lookout for what users of your product begin to call themselves - ClickFunnels users coined the term “FunnelHackers” and Russell followed by making t-shirts
  • If you succeed building a tribe, users of your product will not view your product as a tool but rather as part of their identity
    • Therefore, they will view the competition as threatening, not enticing
  • People just want to belong to something
    • The rise of gang membership tracks with the decline of the family unit (David Buss)

“The reality is when you first start something you’re gonna suck. But if you keep doing it, the less and less you’re gonna suck and eventually you’ll be good.” - Russell Brunson

(click to tweet)

Starting a business once required a lot of time, money, and energy.

But today, if you have an idea for a business, you can launch it almost immediately. Gone are the times of needing to write a business plan and get investments before discovering if your idea fits into the market. Now, in less than an hour, you could find a product source online, open a web store, and begin selling your idea.

Today we are joined by Russell Brunson, owner of ClickFunnels.com, a website-builder that has sales funnels cooked into it so that you can do one thing very easily and well: get customers landing on your website immediately. This was the problem Russell wanted to solve. He, like many of us, had hundreds of business ideas buzzing in his head and wanted to streamline the process to getting a product into the market.

Learn about Russell’s path to building a 9-digit SaaS company on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“People who buy stuff buy stuff. If someone’s not willing to give me $5 for shipping & handling, they’re never going to give me $100/month for software.” - Russell Brunson

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • “Winnow the wheat from the chaf” - find the customers who will pay by setting up payment walls and go after those that make it past them
  • Extrovert + introvert make best business partners - read Working Together by Michael Eisner if seeking advice on business partnership
  • Best headline: How To [Insert Good Thing] Without [Insert Bad Thing]
    • People are motivated by reward and avoidance of pain - hitting both of those is a double psychological bias, called the Lollapalooza Effect
  • Put $10 in Facebook ads behind videos of you endorsing your product - those who don’t make content lose
  • Email campaigns will never be replaced
  • Good copywriting isn’t just the right words. It’s putting the right things in the right place
  • The most powerful word in the English language is “imagine”
  • To be able to sell to the masses, you have to understand people’s false beliefs and shatter them
    • The three false beliefs people have are about: 1) their need for the product, 2) their internal ability to use the product, and then 3) how external factors will influence their use of the product

“When I first started, I had no idea what credit card points were. Now I stay at Ritz-Carltons and fly first-class for free.” - Stephen Liao

(click to tweet)

The best way to learn history is to travel the world for free.

But our school system doesn’t teach us this. We’re tested on the year the Mongols invaded Europe instead of learning how to score free travel points from credit card companies so we can actually go visit Europe.

Today, Stephen Liao teaches us how to sift through the world of credit card perks to be able to do just this. Stephen dropped out of Stanford to figure out the credit card game just a year ago, and today he has a credit-limit that exceeds $3 million spread across 220 different credit cards. If he’s not flying first-class, he’s on a private jet. And if he’s not staying at the Waldorf Astoria, he’s at the Ritz-Carlton.

This is all because he’s figured out how to hack the credit card companies and beat them at their own game. Between the cash back, the flight miles, the discounts at other vendors, he distills all of it on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“Make this a law in your brain: only spend money that you physically have in your bank account. That way you’ll never go into debt and never miss a payment.” - Stephen Liao

  • Play the long game on credit cards. Don’t ever spend money you don’t have
  • If you need to file a dispute, do it at CFPB.gov
  • Discover it® for a beginner credit card
  • Chase Freedom with 5% money back (MB) for an intermediate credit card
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve for an advanced credit card
  • Establish relationships with banks by paying 90-100% of your credit card payment. This will make the time when you need to do a CLI (credit card line increase) easier

  • Ask friendly questions to the people at call-centers
  • For people with bankruptcy history, adopt HUCA (Hang Up Call Again) philosophy when dealing with credit card companies over the phone

“Whatever you do, you’re gonna have to suffer the consequences good or bad. So do you.” - Lavar Ball

(click to tweet)

There’s nobody out there like Lavar Ball.

For the past year, we’ve seen him take over headlines, making controversial statements about the talent of his son Lonzo or justifying the $495 price tag on his Big Baller Brand sneakers. For the critics, this is fodder to create the next news story. But for us marketers, this is utter genius to watch and learn from.

There’s an old saying that any press is good press, and it seems that Lavar Ball lives by that. But the more you listen to him in interviews, the more you learn that he’s just doing him. He actually believes his son is better than Stephen Curry, and that his shoe is worth that price. He’s not doing it for the headlines; he’s doing it to be true to himself.

On today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show, we catch Lavar for a few minutes to talk about his marketing and life philosophies. If there’s one thing we can take away from Lavar, it’s that staying true to your vision is what’s most important.

“The key to life is doing what you love to do, and if you happen to get paid for it, you won.” - Lavar Ball

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Be true to yourself and do marketing your way
  • Anytime you’re in the limelight you’re gonna have 50% of the people like you, and 50% of the people who don’t
  • Get behind your children’s passions and make it fun
  • To get the best out of people, you have to know their strengths and play to them.

“Email the investors. They’re the guys who write the check. They’re the guys that say hire this guy.” - Neil Patel

(click to tweet)

When soliciting business or seeking out clients online, it’s important to be as efficient and effective as possible. But too often we get trapped in our old habits that aren’t producing the results we need. Not only is it hard to realize when this is going on, but even if you can - it’s equally, if not more challenging, to find out who has the answers and what advice they can offer you to change your ways.

Luckily, Neil Patel is here to clear up the whole picture. He’s a New York Times Bestselling Author, Entrepreneur magazine named him a Top 10 Marketer, and today - he spells it all out for us: How to cold-email a CEO, what websites to use when trying to lock in high-paying clients, and finally what (free) online resources are there to help you become the best online marketer.

To be successful in business today, you need to know online marketing inside and out, and that’s what we’re teaching you on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Don’t go after the big guys when engaging on social media or seeking out clients
  • Craigslist over Indeed.com if you’re just beginning to seek out clients online
  • Recently-funded startups get pressure from investors to spend money to make the next Uber. Use Crunchbase news to find which ones just received their money
  • When pitching your services via email - email both the CEO and the investors with where you think the company is messing up and how you can fix it
  • Google AdWords, Facebook Support Center, and YouTube is the new ad-school
  • You just have to be better than most people

“If you’re pitching an investor and they say no, they’re not saying no. They’re just saying not right now.” - Neil Patel

In business, regardless of your product or service, an effective online strategy is essential to your success.

Whether that means a well-designed website that converts visitors into customers, or an engaging social media presence that dialogues with customers - it’s mandatory to infiltrate the Internet and show up on people’s screens if you want to succeed in today’s business world.

However, having the intention to do that and actually doing it are two different things. Fortunately today, we are joined by the best internet marketer around; no person is better at driving traffic than Neil Patel. Neil is a New York Times bestselling author, Entrepreneur magazine named him a Top 10 Marketer, and today he is sharing his secrets by distilling the complicated world of online marketing.

For those of us looking to take our business to the next level - Neil will share his methods to seek out and lock down higher-paying clients and investment money. How do you frame yourself as a social media marketer, what value can you offer in PPC advertising, and what can Google Trends offer you.

“I look for someone who is very good at one thing, not kind of good at a lot of things” - Neil Patel

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Don’t go for the big guys and instead seek out smaller clients
  • If you are looking to launch a physical product, use GoogleTrends to find what holes are in the market and opportunities
  • Investing is a long-term game, especially with currency and real estate
  • K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple and Stupid
  • Helping investors for free and building authentic relationships is the easiest way to make money
  • Scratch their back before you ask them to scratch yours
  • “The man who chases two rabbits catches none.” Focus and be very good at one thing
  • Don’t act like a stranger (“Nice to e-meet you!”) in cold-emails to CEO. If he/she forwards internally, the new point-of-contact will assume you two know each other
  • An important element in a cold email is to ask for them to forward it: “If you can, please forward this to the person in charge of marketing so that I don’t waste any more time.”
  • For writers, use Udemy and Google Trends to find what topics people are interested in
  • Get a superpower and build around that superpower
  • Figure out what you do like by figuring out what you don’t like
  • If you’re going to invest, think long-term strategies. Things go up like crazy, and they go down like crazy, the way you win is by thinking long

“When you poll your audience, you discover their values, which allows you to align your content/product/service better with what they value” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

While a lot of people can make some money even with poor marketing techniques, when you start talking about 8-figure and above businesses, you need to really, REALLY know what you’re doing.

Today, I am talking about how you can use social media and an understanding of human behavior to create a funnel that takes cold traffic and brings them all the way to the point of purchase.

In dating, most people will not sleep with a potential mate until they have spent a minimum of 7 hours with them, and in marketing we see a very similar thing: Unless you can find a way to spend a good amount of time with potential buyers, you will have a very hard time converting cold traffic into customers.

But if, through social media and carefully crafted funnels, you are able to continually show up to them, time and time again until, over time, you have achieved those 7 hours, the likelihood that they will become customers increases exponentially.

That is what I am teaching you how to do on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“Hard work is only 20-25% of the formula for success” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Master the 25 cognitive biases to understand the fundamentals required to grow your social media following
  • Use the VRIN score:
    1. Value
    2. Rarity
    3. Inimitable (could you do it yourself?)
    4. Non-substitutable
  • When you poll your audience, you discover their values, which allows you to align your content/product/service better with what they value
  • Don’t post if the average of the 4 VRIN factors is less than an 8
  • To get to an 8-figure business, you have to have a funnel that is incredibly convincing
  • Hard work is only 20-25% of the formula for success
  • A certain amount of time is required to build enough trust to get a sale, and this can be accomplished either in-person, or through social media
  • There will always be a small amount of people who buy from you even when your marketing is bad. But to get to the 8-figure level, you need to be very, very good at marketing

“Irrational in the consumer world is latin for huge margins” - Scott Galloway

(click to tweet)

When you can introduce sex appeal into both your product and your marketing, you will see your margins and profits soar. This is one of the secrets to the appeal and massive margins of Apple, and today Scott Galloway is digging into how to use sex appeal and an appeal to the irrational urges in marketing and product design to be massively successful in business.

Humans can sense beauty in someone else, even at 50 paces away, and from any angle, because we are programmed to sense it even before we see it, so when you can find a way to bring that element into your business, you will find that you are far more successful.

“If you can tap into sex appeal in your marketing and product design, you will be able to attain massive margins” - Scott Galloway

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • If you can tap into sex appeal in your marketing and product design, you will be able to attain massive margins
  • Even if you’re in a monogamous relationship, increasing your sex appeal will still be a strong urge for you because of evolution
  • You need to tap into irrational margins in business, because the margins created by sex appeal will be the largest of any margins
  • Someone can tell of someone else is beautiful from any angle, from 50 paces away. We sense it
  • Markets value recurring revenue companies at a multiple of revenue versus a multiple of profits, so a business built on this model can get a much more favorable valuation

“When what you say vibes with what people already think, it will be well received” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

When it comes to selling physical products, you will gain massive amounts of value through getting your product placed on retailers shelves. In fact, for many small business owners, getting a distribution deal with a massive chain store is a dream.

But that is the problem: The companies know that, which means that their first offer will probably be a terrible deal for you, and could likely even put you out of business!

That is why today we’re talking about the right way to negotiate a deal with a large retailer, to get your product on their shelves without getting screwed in the process.

Don’t forget, you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“In negotiating, you need to be the flame not the moth, meaning you need people to chase you, not the other way around” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • When it comes to selling physical products, getting your foot in the door at retailers can be a massive advantage
  • After you have your product, you need to get it out to influencers so that they will start talking about it and getting people excited about it
  • When you do this well, people will start walking into stores, expecting to see your product, and will start asking about it
  • At first, the stores won’t think anything of it, until 2-3 people per day are asking about it, and then they will start to dig into it
  • At this point they will reach out to you, but they know that they have all the leverage at this point, so this is not the right time to make a deal with them
  • As they come and ask, you need to find ways to say no nicely for about a year while you build online and evangelize your customers until they are raving fans of your product
  • The whole point of all of this is to get to the point where you have power and can negotiate a contract that is fair
  • You will only be able to negotiate a deal that is fair with retailers after you have had the self control to say no for long enough until they want your product badly enough that they are willing to come to good terms with you
  • In negotiating, you need to be the flame not the moth, meaning you need people to chase you, not the other way around
  • If you want to meet someone at a networking event, the best impression you can make is if you know someone who knows the person, and can tell them that they “have to meet you” for whatever reason
  • For some reason, astrology will go a long way with women
  • In marketing, you should always consider that people love themselves the most, so anything that reflects themselves back to them will be well-loved
  • When what you say vibes with what people already think, it will be well received

“Motivation is essential to success, but you need to LEARN how to motivate yourself” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Motivation is required for success. It’s as simple as that. But while most people understand this truth, few people take the time to learn how to motivate themselves effectively and well. People learn a few of the things that motivate them, like money, or relationships, or achievement, and they put all their energy into that one aspect.

But below I’m outlining the 17 different aspects of what motivates you, and how you can use them to achieve more.

In all of this, it’s importance to have balance. Too often people get all caught up in one or two of the below, and put 90% of their effort into those things. Instead, work on spreading these out evenly in your life, around 5% or so for each, to make sure your life is as fulfilling and happy as possible.

“The secret to being able to change is understanding why things are the way they are” - Tai Lopez

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Motivation is essential to success, but you need to LEARN how to motivate yourself

  • The secret to being able to change is understanding why things are the way they are

  • One of the most painful things in life is not being able to make sense of what happens
  • ALL 17 of the below things must be experienced to feel fulfilled

  • Achievement: Accomplish difficult tasks, overcome obstacles, and become an expert
  • Recognition: Be recognized for what you do

  • Order: Make things clean, neat, and tidy
  • Retention: Hoarding things- within balance

Human Power

  • Dominance: Control one’s environment
  • Deference: Admire a superior person, praising and yielding to them
  • Autonomy: Breaking free from constraints
  • Contrarience: Being oppositional
  • Aggression: Forcefully overcome an opponent
  • Abasement: Surround and submit to others, and accept punishment

“Good eating lifestyle is not a diet, because it’s not limiting. It’s a lifestyle” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The Gracie Diet is an eating lifestyle, developed by the Gracie family of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fame, and designed to combine the correct foods with each other, to give you energy and health to accomplish what you want in life.

But even more fundamentally, in this episode I talk about why it is important to be willing to experiment. Those who have done incredible things have always been willing to experiment, to try things out and see if they work, and whether that’s diet, lifestyle, habits, or anything else, everyone is different, and so experimentation is often the only way you can know if something is right for you specifically.

“When starting a new lifestyle, take it slowly and in stages” -Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The fuel you put in your body is going to affect your performance in a powerful way
  • Most people don’t pay nearly enough attention to how certain foods make them feel
  • Many people are guided almost entirely by the pleasure of eating
  • Good eating lifestyle is not a diet, because it’s not limiting. It’s a lifestyle
  • Most people lack potassium in their diet
  • Eat fruit for dessert
  • A 24 fast once per month is a great cleanse
  • If you write down everything that you eat, you will realize that you’re not eating the way you want
  • When starting a new lifestyle, take it slowly and in stages
  • Make sure you hang out with people who eat similarly to the way you want to eat, because it will affect you greatly
  • Be constantly willing to try out different things, to find out what works for you
  • Willingness to experiment is extremely important to success
  • Take naps

Points to Keep In Mind

  • We all enter adulthood with certain insecurities that can screw up our motivation for what we are doing
  • When you have all those insecurities, you think fame and wealth will solve them, then you become rich and famous and still feel the same way, you start looking for other outlets
  • Every idea has a certain amount of value intrinsic to it, but that amount is either multiplied or subtracted from, depending on how the person is able to express it to others
  • Human communication is 45% body language, 45% tone of voice, and 10% words
  • Eye contact is essential to developing any level of trust
  • The moment someone meets you, they need to get the impression that you can help them reach their goals
  • If you make a bad impression, it takes 7 subsequent meetings to change that
  • We’ve been conditioned to respect elders and allow them to control the flow of the conversation, so getting into that position will allow you to control the sale
  • You have to act as if before you can become that way
  • Persuasion is a linchpin skill for success
  • If someone is really committed to learning the skills required and putting in the time required, it’s almost impossible for you not to succeed
  • Without fear there is no courage
  • The fastest growing company in history was built off social media
  • The social proof of your following on social media is very important
  • Start with a global campaign to grow your Facebook following, to decrease the cost per follower
  • You should shoot for a minimum of 10k followers on each platform
  • If you grow your Facebook fan page, you can redirect a lot of them to Instagram
  • Use share for shares to grow Instagram, but share somebody else’s content before asking them to share yours
  • I recommend posting approximately 7X per day
  • Twitter is the platform that allows the most activity
  • Use live streams for intense attention
  • Companies in the past would underpromise and overdeliver, big tech has flipped that formula and reporters seem to put up with it
  • 80% of our phone time is spent in-app, and 6 of the top 10 apps are owned by Facebook
  • In the age of big tech, we need to start thinking about if what is good for the consumer always good for society
  • Study the most successful companies in history to develop a model for what you want to do
  • Our instinct, since we emerged from caves, is to always want more, because the penalty for less was death
  • Apple has the margins of a lamborghini with the production capabilities of a Toyota
  • Irrational in the consumer world is Latin for ‘huge margins’
  • Recurring revenue business models allow companies to not have to discover new customers constantly
  • As a company, you will be in a good position if you are perceived as a career accelerant

Apple has managed to do something that no other company in history has: Combine the lowest cost of goods through mass production with the highest profit margins available only to luxury brands.

This combination has resulted in a company that has massive profits, and the most valuable company in the world.

This demonstrates the value of finding a way to appeal to irrational urges and instincts, like status and mate-worthiness, in your marketing and product design.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • In the modern age, we don’t tend to depend as much on a superbeing “God” for answers, but we still have anxieties, so Google is now filling that role
  • Google is our modern-man’s God
  • Facebook taps into our need to love and be loved
  • The number one indicator of your chances to make it to 100 is the number of people that you love
  • Our instincts, ever since we emerged from caves, is more. We always want more, because the penalty for less was death
  • The more for less business strategy is usually the company that is the most valuable in the world
  • Apple is the new signal that you have good genes, and are a good mate

Scott Galloway is here today to talk about his new book “The Four,” which discusses the major four tech companies, Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook, and the ramifications of the world we live in.

In the process, we talk about how marketing works in today’s information economy, why irrational urges are the best space to work in because they provide massive margins, how Google has come to replace God in our lives, and why the more boring, less sexy industries are often the best opportunities to make good money.

“The question we have to wrestle with is: Is what is good for the consumer always good for society?” - Scott Galloway

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Amazon does a very good job of dominating the news cycle with features announced carefully for this purpose, sometimes more for the purpose of the PR than for the feature itself
  • Old media has basically been co-opted into being the investor PR department for big tech
  • Traditionally, companies would try to under promise and over deliver. Because of the current news cycle, the reverse is the case with big tech
  • The big four tech companies are getting to the point where they are starting to effectively replace religion in our lives
  • Big tech is bringing very complex moral questions with it
  • 80% of our phone time is spent in app, and 6 of the top 10 apps are owned by one company: Facebook
  • Most of the money spent on advertising is with big tech companies
  • As tech does better, it lowers prices, the reverse of the trend we see in traditional companies
  • People now look to Google for truth, rather than traditional sources
  • The question we have to wrestle with is: Is what is good for the consumer always good for society?
  • We’ve had job destruction in the past, we’ve just never had companies as good at it as big tech is today
  • Our evolutionary instinct is to want more, because lack causes starvation. But in the current first-world dynamic of plenty, this has some unintended consequences
  • Irrational urges on the part of the consumer can lead to massive margins
  • More households have a recurring revenue relationship with Amazon Prime than voted in the 2016 presidential election or have a landline
  • Brands may need to start to open stores to maintain their irrational margins
  • The more boring the industry, the higher the potential ROI

“The more followers you have, the easier it is to get more followers” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

When you are starting to grow your social media following, you need to remember the impact that “social proof” will have on your results. Social proof means that people see that other people are interested in you, and it makes them more likely to check you out, and ultimately follow you on social media platforms.

This is why it is not of paramount importance, starting out, that you only target the customers that will be worth the most to you, but rather that you initially focus on the followers that will be less expensive to acquire, before reaching out to the followers that will be the more expensive to acquire, and potentially worth more to your business in the long run.

Do not forget this essential step of developing social proof, early on in the process of building your social media following. Learn how to do it on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“Profit in business comes from repeat customers, so do a good job for people and they will come back” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Social media is responsible for the fastest growing business in history
  • You must master the game of social media if you want to be successful
  • Learn and understand how to use Facebook pages
  • You can use Facebook to get followers on all of the other platforms
  • Start with a global campaign, and boost certain content with very simple call to actions, telling people to like the page
  • Starting with a global campaign allows you to get the cost per action down to a low price point
  • High follower count is important because the more you have, the easier it is for you to get more, because of the social proof of your follower count
  • 10k followers on each of the main platforms is a minimum you should shoot for to start
  • A good format is, “If you like X, like my page.” Consider adding a photo of you with X
  • If you grow your Facebook page, it becomes much more easy to grow your other platforms, especially Instagram because the ad platform is the same
  • Instagram share for share:
    • First, share somebody else’s content
    • Let them know that you did
    • Then, you can come back later and ask for them to reshare something of yours
  • While Twitter is more difficult to make money from, it is still very valuable, and often undervalued today
  • On Twitter, you have to post more often. I recommend approximately 7 times per day, and you have to post natively to Twitter, not through other platforms like Instagram
  • While more people watched Instagram stories than Snapchat, Snapchat has better user engagement
  • When a platform is difficult to grow, it can be easier to compete, if you can crack the code
  • Again, with Snapchat, you can take your Facebook followers and redirect them to follow you on Snapchat
  • Use Facebook as the anchor to grow your other social media accounts
  • Use live for powerful, intense, urgent attention
  • Social media followers are not just for your ego, they are the new way to reach people
  • Email marketing is still extremely important
  • The game of business is to invest, and social media, when done right, can have a very high return on investment
  • Social media followers are very valuable in the long term because, after you have initially paid to gain them, you can then still get in front of them continually in the future
  • You do not need to do blackhat social media activity in order to grow. You can do it the real way!
  • You can gauge the quality of your life by your level of stress when you go to bed, and when you wake up
  • Profit in business comes from repeat customers, so do a good job for people and they will come back
  • Always start out by building a relationship, and then do bigger and bigger things

“Body language has a way of slipping under the radar of the conscious mind, and communicating directly with the unconscious mind” - Jordan Belfort

(click to tweet)

If you want to get good at sales, you have to learn how to be perceived as an expert in whatever it is that you are selling. This is because when you speak and act as an expert, and the person you are talking to starts to view you as an expert, you are allowed to control the flow of the conversation, which is one of the most important things when it comes to being good at sales.

But there are specific steps to being perceived as an expert, and a lot of it has to do with the way you talk, your body language, tonality, and what you are saying. Today, Jordan Belfort is explaining exactly how to be perceived as an expert in whatever it is that you are selling.

Don’t forget, you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“If you make a bad first impression, it takes 7 subsequent good impressions to change that” - Jordan Belfort

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Human communication is 45% body language, 45% tonality, and only 10% words
  • Words matter greatly when you’re speaking, but you need to understand that you’re communicating even when you’re not speaking
  • Body language has a way of slipping under the radar of the conscious mind, and communicating directly with the unconscious mind
  • Lack of eye contact will make people not trust you
  • When someone has first contact with you, they need to believe that you are worthy of making a sale
  • If you make a bad first impression, it takes 7 subsequent good impressions to change that
  • The only way that you can make every sale the same is by being perceived as an expert, because that is the only way you will be allowed to control the conversation
  • Confidence starts with “acting as if”

“A lot of people have great ideas and concepts, but if you don’t know how to express them to others and persuade them, you will not be able to do much with your ideas” - Jordan Belfort

(click to tweet)

Today’s guest is none other than the Wolf of Wall Street Himself, Jordan Belfort, and we’re talking about sales, how to learn to be a better salesman, and more generally, how to become more persuasive in everything you do in life.

A lot of business people have good ideas and concepts for their business, but in reality, the value of their idea is either multiplied or drastically reduced by their ability to persuade others of their idea!

This is why sales is important to everyone, not just people who do or plan to make their living as a “salesman.” If you want to be successful, you will have to learn how to convince others, and Jordan’s Straight Line System is the proven strategy to teach you how to do that.

Learn all of that and much more, on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“Strategic preparation is essential to good sales” - Jordan Belfort

(click to tweet)

TaiLopez.com/Wolf

Points to Keep In Mind

  • A lot of people have great ideas and concepts, but if you don’t know how to express it to others and persuade them, you will not be able to do much with your ideas
  • Even people who are natural at something follow certain rules and strategies, they just do it naturally. But anyone can learn them
  • Strategic preparation is essential to good sales
  • Your prospect needs to be 10 out of 10 on your product, trusting you, and your company, before closing
  • Rookie salespeople skip the qualifying section of the sales process. First of all, you need to make sure your prospect is in the market in the first place
  • By asking smart questions, you can get into solid rapport with prospects
  • Your prospect has to believe that you really care about them
  • Your prospect has to understand that, fundamentally, you’re just like them
  • Every idea has a certain amount of value to it. But the way it is presented either multiplies that value, or takes away from it
  • Persuasion is a learnable thing
  • Human communication is 45% tone of voice, 45% body language, and only 10% words
  • Body language has a way of slipping under the radar, and going right to the unconscious mind and creating a gut reaction
  • When someone makes their first impression of you, they should be thinking:
    • This person is sharp as a tac
    • This person is enthusiastic
    • This person is an expert in the field
  • If you make a bad first impression, it takes 7 subsequent meetings to turn that around
  • When you’re perceived as an expert, it gives you the opportunity to control the flow of the conversation
  • The first stage of confidence comes from acting as if
  • Study the best, in detail, to model it and eventually become it
  • Resilience has to do with the fundamental belief that you have what it takes to be successful
  • Once you learn how to communicate, it changes who you are, and you become the successful person you could be
  • Without fear, there is no courage
  • Objections are nothing more than smoke-screens for uncertainty

“We fall in love with people and things that remind them of themselves” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

What you believe about your own identity will drive your behavior. This is why, if you give yourself the identity of a learner, of the best and fastest learner in any room, and really convince yourself that that truly is your identity, your behavior will follow and you actually will become that learner.

This is an important truth: Identity drives behavior. So be purposeful about what you set as your identity! Our identities are not set in stone. Instead, they are defined by us. Too many people allow other people to define their identity, when it is yours to define!

Learn how to do all of this, to truly define what you want your identity to be, on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“Throw out the idea that there are limits to what you can learn” - Tai Lopez

Points to Keep In Mind

  • We fall in love with people and things that remind them of themselves
  • Marketing has to vibe with what people already believe
  • Start in Marketing with people who already have a similar view to yours. Then, in the coming years, you can expand to evangelize from there
  • Throw out the idea that there are limits to what you can learn
  • Behavior is driven by identity, to make your identity never to back down from a problem
  • While the vast majority of knowledge is unknown to you at the moment, change your mindset to one that understand that almost any of it can be known and understood
  • Don’t invest time and energy into inventing the whole. Instead, have mentors!

“Most people build self esteem around being right, good, or something else. Instead, build your self esteem around being the fastest, best learner” - Tom Bilyeu

(click to tweet)

Today we’re talking with the founder of Quest Bars about how he was able to build a health bar empire. Quest Bars sell 1.5 million bars per day, and today he is giving us a behind the scenes view of what it takes to do something on that scale, and just importantly, what it feels like to achieve the much success.

Tom places a tremendous amount of emphasis on where your self esteem comes from. If your self esteems comes from being right, you will feel too threatened to admit when you’re wrong, and learn from it. But if your self esteem instead comes from the idea that you are an incredible learner, the best learner in any room, you will be willing to admit when you’re wrong.

Just like he says, your behavior is driven by your identity. So the process of defining to yourself what your own identity is, will change your behavior, and in fact is one of the most powerful ways to change your behavior to be what you want it to be.

“When your marketing, there has to be a subconscious thing that vibes with what your customer thinks about themselves” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • What you build your self esteem around matters
  • Most people build self esteem around being right, good, or something else. Instead, build your self esteem around being the fastest, best learner
  • Being a constant learner is the only way that you are going to achieve great things
  • Make your goal the adventure, rather than being right
  • Influencers are a powerful way to launch
  • Business partners are like a marriage: You need to really, really know the person before you agree to anything
  • When you do a really good influencer campaign, people will start going into stores, expecting them to be sold there, and asking about it, which will pressure the stores to stock your product
  • Say no to stores who want to carry your product, keep building online, evangelize your customers until they love you, and then in a year or so you can negotiate a deal that’s much better for you
  • What you chase moves away from you, and what you deny moves closer. So attract what you want, but don’t too much of a chaser
  • You have to play the long game
  • When your marketing, there has to be a subconscious thing that vibes with what your customer thinks about themselves
  • You should believe that you can learn to do literally anything
  • Behavior is driven by identity
  • Make your identity what you want it to be, and your behavior must follow
  • Use mentors instead of constantly trying to reinvent the wheel

“Knowing more languages will always help you make more money” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Today, a lot of people discount the value of learning other languages, thinking that you can always use an interpreter, or soon even a machine to interpret for you, in the event that you need to communicate with someone who does not speak your language.

In reality, if you speak another language, you will be able to make more money. It’s as simple as that. People buy from you based on whether they like you or not, and if you can communicate with them in a more real, personal way, without the barriers imposed by an interpreter or machine, you will have the opportunity to make far more money.

In addition, the exercise to your brain, and expanding your thought processes through learning other languages, is incredibly valuable.

Learn how to go about learning new languages quickly, with David Mills, on this episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

Too many entrepreneurs and business people want to brag about how much they make, their accomplishments, and what they’re doing. Instead, making people think you’re doing less than you are. That you’re making less money than you are. At least until it is the right time. In this way, you do not draw too much attention, until you can handle that attention.

“You should be testing at least 17 things per day if you can” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Are you experimenting every single day?

A lot of people either don’t like to experiment, or don’t think to. But, in reality, experimentation is the only way that you can take the guesswork out of your decisions.

If you have been working on a decision, and trying to figure out which is the best way to go with something, you need to find a way to break the components of the decision down into experimental aspects, and then measure the results.

You should try to do at least 17 different small experiments every single day.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • You should be testing at least 17 things per day if you can
  • Experiment and test every aspect of your life, and measure the results
  • When you experiment, you will be surprised at the small things that will actually make a difference in your life
  • People lie, but numbers don’t
  • If you think or say you’re smart, prove it
  • Any attack on your current states is not an attack on your person. Use it as an attempt to mold who you will be in the future

“Ambition comes from a goal, and often a finite, dollar-sign, goal” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Goal-setting is one of the most important skills for you to develop. Without real, tangible and specific goals, you will have a very hard time motivating yourself to beat procrastination. But if you instill the right goals in your life, they will motivate you to get off the couch, conquer your procrastination tendencies, and do great things!

But it is very important that you understand how to set the right goals. If your goals are completely selfish, they will not feel like they have enough of a higher, more noble goal behind them to get you to really get to work. But if your goals are purely for others and lack any element of selfishness, you will lack the motivation

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The more money that people think you have, the more you’ll get sued, gold diggers, etc
  • The wise general doesn’t reveal all his strengths
  • Business is like war: You have to think several weeks ahead
  • Don’t go to war with idiots, because they don’t have anything to lose
  • Fade away from people rather than making a big deal out of cutting them out of your life
  • Always start business that take little startup capital
  • Test your products for cheap before putting money into it
  • People will find money for the things that they really want
  • Often the drive to get something that seems too expensive will drive you to make more money
  • Ambition comes from a goal, and often a finite, dollar-sign, goal

“Find a way to start your call in charge of the conversation” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

If you know how to pick up the phone and sell, you will never be poor. This week, we talked about a lot of different things, one of the most important of which is learning the ability to sell.

A lot of people don’t like the idea of selling. They cannot help but conjure up images of sleazy salespeople. But the reality is that an ability to be persuasive, which is at the core of good selling, is going to be absolutely essential to any endeavor you might undertake in life, whether it has to do with business or not!

In this best of the week episode, we also dive into why humans are illogical and what to do about it, how to use pattern interruption to take charge of a conversation, why people buy based on vibes and how to take advantage of that, why you must master the art of reading people, and why the solopreneur is not a good route to go long-term.

Don’t forget, you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“Humans are not logical, even if they think they are” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Using the right tools and technology is essential to success in anything, and especially sales
  • Top sales people talk less than 30% of the call
  • Face to face interactions come out of good phone calls
  • Find a way to start your call in charge of the conversation
  • Use pattern interruption to set the tone for who is in charge of the conversation
  • Bring people so much value for free that by the time people get to your landing page, they are ready to buy
  • Humans are not logical, even if they think they are
  • People buy from you based on vibes
  • You have to sell people based on yourself
  • If people buy into you on a personal level, they will buy your product from you
  • Not everyone can vibe with you, and you have to go in understanding and knowing that
  • As a salesman, you must have thick skin
  • You’re probably underestimating the value of polling
  • Sell to the willing
  • You must master the art of reading people
  • Almost no one can scale to 8 figured as a solopreneur
  • You have to learn the fine art of phasing people out of your life
  • A narcissist in your life will inevitably, perhaps accidentally, steal from you
  • Work is 20% of the formula for success
  • To make money, you have to have thick skin
  • Time is precious. You have about 50k hours of your prime, don’t waste it!

“If you want to make money, you have to have thick skin” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The world is full of people who get upset and choose to comment negatively about the strangest, most nonsensical things. But, if you are someone who is trying to do great things in the world, it’s important to remember that when someone hates on you, they are probably saying more about themselves than they are about you.

When people start to look at their life and realize that it hasn’t quite shaped up to be all that they wanted it to be, that’s when they start looking for others to hate on. That’s what you should probably just feel sorry for your haters, since their hate is usually a reflection of themselves more than anything.

“Make enough money that you can give, not only to yourself, but to others” - Tai Lopez

Today, I’m talking about 5 business ideas that you can start immediately, this week, that will cost you less than $100 to get started. Lots of people complain about not having enough money to start a business and get ahead, when the reality is that it takes far less capital than you think to start a lot of businesses.

So I am giving away ideas.

I am also willing to give away ideas because I know that building a successful business is in the execution, not the idea. So take action, seize an idea and don’t waste time, and then get down to work executing on your idea!

“Early adopters will buy even when your marketing is bad. You need to appeal to more than these people” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The average woman needs about 20 hours spent with a man before she is willing to sleep with him, and this teaches us something very important about sales: Just as women are risk-averse, and so do not want to sleep with anything, the average customer needs to get to know you before they will feel comfortable giving you their money.

This is why you content needs to be long enough, while still staying consistently interesting and engaging, to get enough “face-time” for your prospective customers to trust you. In addition, being able to actually see your face, via video, will also go a long way to building trust quicker.

When you combine all of these factors, you will be able to build a sales funnel that brings in new people and convinces them to trust you enough to buy from you.

  • Early adopters will buy even when your marketing is bad. You need to appeal to more than these people
  • Find ways to show up in front of people more often, and increase the number of hours you spend in front of them

  • You can’t sell the solution if you don’t know what the need/problem is
  • Keep the prospect talking as much as possible

  • Choose which “frame” you want to use to show why someone should buy from you
  • Salespeople have to have incredible amount of positiveness in their attitude
  • Enthusiasm will go a long ways in sales
  • Even genius people are not super logical. You have to appeal to emotions

When you combine a great tone with a great pitch, that’s when the magic happens

(click to tweet)

Getting good at sales has a very specific formula to it, and when you learn that formula, you can dominate the sales industry. Because, instead of flailing around and trying new things out all the time, never knowing if they’ll work or not, when you have a formula you know what works, and from there you can simply hone and refine that formula.

Today, I’m talking with Chris Smith of Curaytor about what goes into highly effective and persuasive sales. We talk about how too many people focus on features over benefits, when the benefits actually sell the product, why you should listen more and talk less, how to use tone, and much more!

Talented people start with questions

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • If you’re not afraid of the phone, you’ll never be poor
  • Instead of focusing on the features, go “feature, benefit, then tie-down”
  • You must get your prospect to agree with you
  • Don’t jump to the pitch, there are a lot of steps that lead up to the pitch
  • When you combine a great tone with a great pitch, that’s when the magic happens
  • Your sales pitch must not seem too scripted
  • Time destroys all sales. Follow up quickly
  • It’s almost impossible to overpay a good person
  • You need the prospect to speak a lot when you have them on the phone
  • Talented people start with questions
  • You can’t sell a solution if you don’t know what the problem is, and what is needed
  • Enthusiasm is essential to selling
  • Nobody closes all deals, to thick skin is essential
  • Get called out by qualified people who can help you out

“Become a master of seeking out a group of advisors” - Tai Lopez

Most people think that they have more time in their life to create impact than they really do. But if you do the math, and subtract the time that you spend sleeping (which accounts for about ⅓ of your life), you probably have much less time than you think.

This is why it is so essential that you do not try to learn everything through trial and error. You simply don’t have enough time to take that approach in life and create significant impact!

Instead, you must be very purposeful about constantly learning, seeking out mentors, and making sure that your circle of friends is what you need.

Learn how to do all that on this episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

  • Become a master of seeking out a group of advisors
  • Every great athlete has a badass coach
  • If you try to learn on your own, through trial and error, you will run out of time to have an impact in your life

  • Don’t just ask, give people a few options and have them choose
  • Mix entertainment into everything. Consider: 50% entertaining, 50% educational
  • Most people have to see you ten times before they’ll buy from you
  • Relationships marketing works, and retargeting is a way of scaling relationship marketing
  • Marketing is about vibes, not pure logic
  • The human brain is risk-averse, that’s why they try to avoid new things
  • If you want to change your life, try taking a nap every day
  • You can’t optimize your body with optimizing stress reduction
  • Supplements work, but not as quickly as you think

“You need to be rewired for success” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Dopamine is a substance in your brain that not only makes you feel good in general, but also confident and ambitious. But science has shown that the more that you win, the more dopamine receptors you grow. This makes you more confident and ambitious, which in turn makes you grow even more receptors.

It’s a virtuous cycle.

But it goes both ways, and this is why those who win tend to continue to win, while those who are stuck with a limiting mindset have a very difficult time breaking out of that mindset.

Your mindset might not be your fault. It could be a result of your parents, the public school system, your friends, or any number of factors. But it is holding you back.

This is why I try to show you my own success and the success of others. So that your world expands, and your mindset enlarges. As this happens, and you see the possibilities in the world, you start to win more, you grow more dopamine receptors, and the cycle begins to turn in your favor instead of against you.

And understanding of the above science is essential to being able to motivate yourself to work hard and succeed, and that is what I’m teaching you on this episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

Don’t forget, you can listen to The Tai Lopez Show on Spotify! Click “Follow” and let me know what you think!

“It’s not enough to know how to do something, you have to have the confidence, ambition, and motivation to follow through on it” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • You have to understand how to motivate yourself
  • Dopamine receptors are what make you feel good, and more importantly, confident
  • When you win, your brain grows more dopamine receptors, and when you lose, you lose dopamine receptors
  • Winning makes you more confident and more ambitious, which then makes you more ambitious, and makes you win more. It’s a virtuous cycle
  • You need to be rewired for success
  • It’s not enough to know how to do something, you have to have the confidence, ambition, and motivation to follow through on it

“It’s the stuff you DON’T do that will scam you” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Today I am going to show you the 4 steps to making money online. The only way to create serious wealth is to create what I call “robotic income.” This is the income that is happening constantly, without your own actions It’s happening while you do other things, while you sleep, etc.

This means that if you want to make $1,000 per week, you don’t have to divide by that amount by the normal 40 hour workweek (which would come out to $2,5 per hour), but you can divide it by 24 hours per day, coming to 168 hours per week, meaning you only have to figure out how to make $5.95 per hour.

Which seems easier?

This is the power of robotic, passive income. As you ramp up your income and diversify through multiple streams of income, you can get to the point where, like me, you’re able to bring in $100k/day in income.

“Money doesn’t guarantee happiness, but lack of money guarantees stress” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • You will figure out how to make money in stages, not all at once. Just make sure you’re always heading the right direction
  • The average billionaire has 3 or more different streams of income
  • You must learn how to create “robotic income”
  • The average person right now is saving 1% of their income. They are not creating any wealth for themselves
  • Figure out how to progressively make more money each month, and each year
  • Reduce what it takes to reach your goals into monthly, weekly, daily, and even hourly
  • Don’t be afraid to be curious, be disruptive to the entrenched companies
  • Don’t be afraid of controversy and standing out
  • Create an interesting brand story
  • In life, you will encounter skeptics. You want those people. They are revealing who they are
  • Find a business partner that compliments you, and fills in where you are lacking
  • Understanding how to motivate yourself is one of the most important things you can do
  • Multiple streams of income will keep you safer during recessions
  • Pretty much every adult regrets the stuff they didn’t do. Don’t be that person!
  • Don’t buy things that depreciate
  • When you understand how humans work, you become good at marketing
  • Include bonuses in what you sell
  • Money doesn’t guarantee happiness, but lack of money guarantees stress
  • It’s the stuff you DON’T do that will scam you

The 4 Steps to Make Money Online

“Always stay intellectually curious” - Naveen Jain

(click to tweet)

The saying goes, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink,” to demonstrate that if someone doesn’t want or is unwilling to do something for themselves that would be good for them, there is little you can do. But if you focus your efforts instead on how you make the horse thirsty, you’ve solved the problem.

This thirst is what Naveen Jain says anyone who wants to be successful needs to cultivate. It is intellectual curiosity, and a desire to constantly learn, and it is what separates the greats, those who are super successful, from the rest.

If you want to be successful, you need to cultivate inside yourself this desire to learn. Find out how billionaire Naveen Jain learns every day, on this episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

  • As an entrepreneur, your jobs is not to focus on where the world is now, but where you want it to be

In addition, audacious goals make getting press much easier as well. With top talent and press on your side, raising capital becomes much easier to do, and this is Naveen Jain’s secret to success.

When you measure you success by how many lives you change, you start to think differently. Instead of placing earning money at the top of your priorities, your attention is now focused on the right things, and the money follows.

When launching a physical product, start with Amazon. When shopping online, customers have a built-in bias towards making purchases on Amazon, so there is little friction to get someone to buy there, as opposed to other places like your own e-commerce site.

However, as you progress, it will probably be a good idea to start making sales on your own site, whether through Shopify or some other platform, so that you can capture emails and have other methods of communicating with your customers.

We also talk about the psychology of marketing, how to be a better marketer through reading humans, and why females are actually responsible for how the definition of beauty has evolved.

“The science shows that people learn slightly better online than in the classroom” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • When you sell on Amazon, people have an existing bias: They are used to purchasing things on Amazon
  • Launch and test on Amazon, and then, once you have good momentum, you can consider moving to your own ecommerce or shopify store
  • You have to look not only at absolutes, but at subjective progress, and relative progress to yourself
  • Entrepreneurs need to be good at marketing
  • All marketing is rooted in psychology
  • Even the non-emotional people listening, who think they make decisions based off pure logic, are more swayed by emotion than they think
  • If people just like you, they buy from you no matter what you’re selling
  • The association bias will make you like things that you associate with other things you like
  • The availability bias makes us attack things that are more obvious and easy to see, while ignoring the bigger problems that are a bit more complicated to think about
  • The science shows that people learn slightly better online than in the classroom
  • Online education allows us to learn from the absolute best teachers in the world
  • In reality, women are determining what is considered beautiful, because they tend to be far more picky than men
  • In humans, females may have evolved to prefer males who were “de-weaponized.” Smiling reveals a lack of fangs
  • Males need to get in touch with their softer side
  • Money is a relatively new invention, and it has changed our culture a lot
  • The long childhood is one of the main things that separates us from apes, and the strong family culture throughout that time
  • Children do better with a dad who participates. Parental investment from both parents contributes in a major way to the quality of childhood

“When you’re stubborn, you limit your opportunities and your potential” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Stubbornness is a character trait that, if left undealt with, will wreak havoc on your attempts at success. Anytime you start to get on the right road, a tendency to be stubborn will sabotage your attempts, hold you down, and keep you where you are.

The successful in life are the constant learners, and the only way to be constantly learning new things is to let go of stubbornness, your tendencies to cling to your own ways and reject outside input, and embrace a mindset that is always learning from any input you receive.

Learn why and how to develop that mindset on today’s episode of The Tai Lopez Show!

“To be good in business, you have to be able to listen carefully and read people” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Stubbornness is a primary reason for most people’s inability to achieve what they want, and be successful on their own terms. When you are stubborn, you limit your opportunities. But the truth is that really good opportunities do not come around too often in life, so if you really want to be successful you have to seize them when they do, and take full advantage of them.

In addition, a lot of people are completely unwilling and even unable to see their own faults, because of their sensitivity to input and correction from others. When you are corrected, but all you can see or feel is how hurt you are that someone else doesn’t think you know everything, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Listen to this episode to hear the 3 reasons most people fail, and how you can avoid them, to achieve great things in your life.

  • To be good in business, you have to be able to listen carefully and read people
  • Most people are completely unwilling to change their routine
  • If things change, you acquire new evidence, you need to change and not be stubborn

“The idea of machismo as the core of attraction is deeply flawed, and a recipe for unhappiness” - Richard Prum

(click to tweet)

The idea of the macho-male at the forefront of what we consider attractive in males is a deeply flawed construct, and one that leads to a lot of unhappiness among humans and in relationships.

While machismo can play a role, it is important that males also get in touch with their more tender and caring side. Developing that side more fully will lead to more happy relationships on both sides, and also do a lot of good for the world socially.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The idea of machismo as the core of attraction is deeply flawed, and a recipe for unhappiness
  • The modern idea of maleness has taken a direction that leads to everyone being more unhappy
  • Get in touch with what it means to be caring, both for partner and offspring
  • The evolutionary idea is that sperm is cheap and eggs are expensive, so males should be profligate and females should be coy. But that doesn’t explain the entirety of the human experience
  • The female pursuit of sexual pleasure is large part of the human evolutionary course, but is something that is de-emphasized today
  • Studies show that people lie in ways that bring them more in line with what they feel culture demands of them

“Beauty can function somewhat like an irrationally exuberant market bubble” - Richard Prum

(click to tweet)

The evolutionary view of beauty has traditionally been that humans evolved a sense of what was beautiful based on practically. We’re often taught that things like the waist to hip ratio are a long-ingrained sign of fertility to men, which is why we find them attractive.

My guest today, Richard Prum, has a different view. He says that beauty can be viewed more as an “irrationally exuberant financial market bubble.” In other words, it’s not so cut and dry, and natural selection has led each of us, within our own cultures, to develop a sense of what we consider attractive, not dependent on the practicality of evolutionary considerations.

“Beauty is a social contrivance. It’s invented by us” - Richard Prum

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Certain aspects of science seem to be completely unexplainable
  • Beauty can function somewhat like an irrationally exuberant market bubble
  • Beauty is a social contrivance. It’s invented by us
  • Humans are evolved to be satisfied, and to find satisfying relationships
  • The evolutionary idea of beauty being practical neglects some of the concepts of natural selection in the human animal
  • In society, it could be argued that it is actually women who are defining the idea of beauty more than men
  • The idea of machismo and dominance as the core of attraction is deeply flawed and a cause of unhappiness
  • Get in touch with the idea of what it means to be really caring for your partner
  • Human diversity is a result of the diversity of mate-choice, therefore standards of beauty can be far different across cultures
  • The men who are most attractive tend to be socially attentive

“Some people think online learning is a scam, but consider the scam that is college debt with no guarantee” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

People are quick to label online education a scam, when traditional education is much closer to a scam than almost any education online. Think about it: When you go to college, you have no money-back guarantee, and often very subpar educators.

When you learn online, you have the opportunity to learn from some of the very best in the world, without any consideration of location, and not only that but many online courses, like mine, come with money-back guarantees, so that if you are unsatisfied for some reason, you can get a refund.

Plus, studies have been done which show that, in general, people learn a small amount better online than in person.

As it turns out, the science is in. People sometimes think online education is a scam just because they are not willing to put in the work to get the results, but that is a problem with the student, not teacher, and not with the education itself.

If you’re quick to label online education a scam, think it through, and ask yourself what you really mean.

“Online education allows people to learn from the absolute best in the world” - Tai Lopez

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Some people think online learning is a scam, but consider the scam that is college debt with no guarantee
  • People are skeptical of online classes, when the reality is that most people learn better online than in the classroom
  • Online education allows people to learn from the absolute best in the world
  • The classroom system, and in-person learning, is a setup that makes more people learn from subpar educators
  • A lot of people like to brag about reading books, without actually putting anything into practice
  • Change occurs in groups much better than on their own

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Don’t try to come up with something completely new. Instead take something that is already working well and improve on it
  • Look for existing ideas and improve on them
  • Find a way to shrink the size of the problem through doing the math required to get to where you want to be
  • Focus initially on the minimum viable product. It doesn’t have to be perfect at first
  • Don’t only look at absolute results, but relative results to where you were before
  • Going too fast can get you in trouble, just like going too slow can
  • You should always sell stuff that you really use
  • Connect with influencers around your product
  • To be good at marketing you have to understand psychology
  • A lot of mindset things are hardwired from the day you’re born, in your DNA

“The true definition of “luck” in this modern age is learning early” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

To determine the financial value potential of something right now, there is a simple formula: Future value = present value of future revenue. This is the formula that you can use when examining business ideas and opportunities, when looking into investments, and all other areas of financial potential.

Today, I am talking about that formula, as well as why apartments are one of the lower risk real estate opportunities, the 2 ways you make money, how to monetize a brand beyond normal operations, why life is like poker, 3 ways to start a side hustle, why haters hate, why mindset is the main thing holding people back, and what the butterfly effect means for the importance of the little decisions you make everyday.

“Think about life like poker: You don’t have to win every hand, just don’t go all in when you have a bad hand” -Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • In the long term, something is worth: Present value of future revenue
  • Ask yourself: How much would you pay today to have a future revenue?
  • Apartments allow you to diversify your future revenue
  • 2 ways you make money in anything:
    • Capital appreciation
    • Cashflow
  • If you build a brand that is recognizable and has good connotations with it, you can make money through licensing deals without actually running the business
  • The true definition of “luck” in this modern age is learning early
  • Think about life like poker: You don’t have to win every hand, just don’t go all in when you have a bad hand
  • 3 ways to start your side hustle:
    • Look at the skills you already have instead of trying to get new skills
    • Don’t just have an idea. Go from idea to offer
    • Launch before you think you’re ready
  • A lot of ideas cannot be validated until you actually do them
  • At the end of the day, we’re all going to the grave at around the same pace, but some people go their with a more happy life than others
  • Haters are usually just projecting their own insecurities on others
  • Too many people want to remove all insecurity from life, but that is simply not possible
  • Life goes through the process of seasons, so expect the changes
  • You have to be 100% convinced and sold on your own product to be good at sales
  • Mindset is the main thing holding most people back
  • Just as a butterfly flapping its wings can start a hurricane, very small bad decisions in your life can lead to terrible consequences down the road
  • Likewise, small intelligent decisions can help you in incredible ways down the road
  • You must structure fun and entertainment in your life to stay motivated in the long run

“Break your goals down into small steps to reduce the intimidation around them” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

In order to achieve something, you must know the steps between where you are now, and where you want to be. A lot of people have big goals, but unless those goals are broken down into the required, manageable steps, you will not know the path forward.

This is why I recommend the practice of inversion: Invert where you want to be, by what it will take to get there. If you want to make $100,000 per year, find out how much that is per day, and then find out how much per hour. Then, focus on achieving that hourly goal.

Follow this formula to break your goals down into their manageable steps, to know the specifics of the way forward to achieve them.

  • Use the practice of inversion to find out the small details required to achieve your high-level goals
  • Break your goals down into small steps to reduce the intimidation around them
  • Everyone's a millionaire: Either 1 million dollars or 1 million excuses
  • Some people have a mindset that always looks for the negative
  • People are taught to be pessimistic by society

“You have to be able to see possibilities before you pursue possibilities” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Your potential will be what you decide it is. The reality is that what holds most people back is their own mindset. If you think you have unlimited potential, within your circle of competence, you really do have unlimited potential within that circle.

The circle of competence refers the range of things that you are really competent in. For instance, if you are not at all naturally athletic, you do not have unlimited potential in athletic pursuits. But provided you have a certain level of competence within a pursuit or skill, your potential is probably only being limited by what you mindset is.

So increase the range of your mindset, and what you believe is possible for you to achieve. As you do that, you will see your results begin to increase in kind.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • You have to be able to see possibilities before you pursue possibilities
  • About 90% of the world only operates at 10% of their potential
  • Nothing happens unless you, at some point, really believe it is doable
  • There are a lot of things that are required to live a good life, but money is one of the most measurable
  • See risk as opportunity
  • Look for balance in your work life
  • 70% of billionaires did sales. It’s a great early education
  • Most of society is not ready or willing to learn
  • You have to believe it is possible before you can achieve it
  • Each thought starts to create a groove in your mind. As you continue to think negative thoughts, you reinforce bad mental habits that will keep you down
  • Your mental frameworks of thought will define what is really possible for you
  • You are not entitled to a good life, just the pursuit of a good life
  • If you solve problems, you will make money. The harder the problem you solve, the more money you will make
  • Understand your audience, and make an impression on them
  • Up your vocabulary to seem smarter
  • Whatever you can conceive, within your circle of competence, you can achieve
  • Find what’s working, and then double down
  • Obstacles are the sign that you’re about to make big money
  • Anything that is easy will likely not make much money
  • Make up for problems with volume

“You can never remove all uncertainty from your life, you just need to stack the deck in your favor” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Do you understand the natural cycles of life? There are season of prosperity in any life, and the winter is when things dry up, when you don’t have as much going on, when your income is down and it seems like you can’t get anything off the ground. This is the time that you have to prepare for.

Those who have built real wealth have done so through an understanding of this, and a preparation for the winter. As long as you are prepared for the winter, you can weather the storm. The winter only destroys those who were foolish enough to think it would never come, and so never prepared for it.

Understand which season you are in, and live your life accordingly, with an understanding of the coming changes of season and preparation for those changes.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • College can be one of the worst scams, depending on what your goals are
  • Colleges don’t even come with a money-back guarantee, which would force them to be useful to their students
  • You can never remove all uncertainty from your life, you just need to stack the deck in your favor
  • Understand the natural rhythms, and seasons, of life, and that not all times will be the best times for you
  • When things are good, prepare for the coming winter
  • The way you fight the winter is actively: Through education and preparation
  • The reason you don’t have as much money coming as you want is always because you don’t know well enough what you’re doing

“A big percentage of the population compromises when it comes to relationships” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

On this best of the week episode, we’re talking about love and why its closest analogy may be hypnotism, why you can’t really trust someone who is in love, and why you need to treat your relationships and love life like you have a short amount of time left to live: Would you really be with this person if you only had a few months left to live?

We also dig into the topic of procrastination, and why people fall into the habit: The reality is that procrastination almost always stems from an incorrect understanding of the pain to reward ratio. If you understood exactly how worth it the pain was for the reward, or goal, you are seeking, you would not struggle so much with procrastination. Therefore, you must do whatever it takes to have that goal always in front of you, in mind, very tangible and very specific, to beat procrastination.

Plus, we talk about why regulations often lead to a worsening of the problem they were supposed to fix, and why mother nature will always laugh last.

“Respect yourself too much to stay with someone after you know they’re not right for you” -Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • A big percentage of the population compromises when it comes to relationships
  • The closest analogy to love is hypnotism
  • Some people just love being in love, more than loving anyone individually
  • Most people have been messed up so badly by the time that they are 18 years old that they need a lot of help to get their mentality figured out
  • Do not have kids unless you think you’re ready to raise kids without messing up their mentality
  • Be very careful of anyone who scores highly on a dark triad test
  • Respect yourself too much to stay with someone after you know they’re not right for you
  • Keep your eye on a very specific prize to stay motivated and stop procrastinating
  • Most procrastination comes from an un-realistic view of the reward/pain ratio
  • If you knew the value of the rewards and goals you are striving toward, in their entirety, you would not struggle with procrastination
  • Develop good associations with the work you have to do
  • A lot of regulations have unintended side effects and consequence, some of which actually contribute to the problem that the regulation was trying to solve
  • Mother nature always laughs last

“The closest analogy to love is hypnotism, so be very careful if you think you’re in love” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Understanding people, and have a core, foundational understanding of personality types is essential if you want to know who you should date, who you should have a relationships with, and who you should avoid.

The closest analogy to love is hypnotism, which is why you simply cannot trust your own feelings when it comes to relationships. Sometimes, you need to rely on models and personality tests to show you the warning signs.

Then, as you get better and better at reading personality types, you will get better at making judgement-calls about the people you meet. Just be extremely careful if you feel like you might be in love in any way.

“People know to get body-trainers, but more people need ‘brain trainers’” -Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The closest analogy to love is hypnotism, so be very careful if you think you’re in love
  • Often, if you are “in love,” you’re blinded to reality and common sense
  • Most people can’t really change more than 10-20%
  • Having “low impulse control” is genetic and can be passed on to children
  • Use personality tests to understand people better, especially before getting into relationships
  • The earlier you try to change your thought patterns, the easier it will be
  • People know to get body-trainers, but more people need “brain trainers”
  • Like attracts like, so unfortunately this means that a lot of people with problems will be attracted to people with similar problems

“Keep your eye on the TANGIBLE prize at the end of the hard work” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Learn how to rebalance your own ideas of the reward/pain ratio, to get your butt out of the chair and get to work, on today’s episode of the Tai Lopez Show.

If you struggle with procrastination, this episode will give you the tools that you need to kick that bad habit for good. The problem comes from a mental bias which, once you define it and are aware of it, you can adjust to show yourself how much the momentary pain is worth it for the reward at the end of the tunnel.

It’s all about changing your own subconscious perceptions of the reward/pain ratio, and this episode will teach you how to do just that.

“Don’t think about broad goals, get specific” -Tai Lopez

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Keep your eye on the TANGIBLE prize at the end of the hard work
  • Don’t think about broad goals, get specific
  • Pick a dollar number, whatever it is that is meaningful to you
  • Balance the reward/pain ratio, and try to tip the scales to see how worth it the work really is

“Your goals and prizes should be tangible” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Very few people understand the the risk/reward bias in human brains, and how it can hold you back from achieving what you want to achieve.

Many people have an inaccurate understanding of the amount of pain, or work, that it will take for them to achieve their goals, as compared to the amount of happiness it will bring them when they finally do achieve those goals.

This is why humans procrastinate.

If they really understood the value, to them, of achieving what they were striving for in all its detail, they would not procrastinate but would be motivated to do the amount of work necessary to achieve that goal.

This episode shows you how you can change that subsconscious misunderstanding in your own life, to help you overcome the instinct to procrastinate, and rather get down to work creating the life of your dreams!

“Change your perception of the reward/pain ratio, and understand how worth it the pain is” - Tai Lopez

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Your goals and prizes should be tangible
  • The best way to avoid procrastination is to stop thinking about the work, and start thinking about the thing you want
  • People’s tendency to procrastinate comes from a misunderstanding of the pain to reward ratio
  • Find a way to really see, and keep constantly on your mind, your goals and the reason why you are working hard to achieve them
  • Don’t make things too complicated with different theories, ideas and techniques. Just focus on the end game
  • Change your perception of the reward/pain ratio, and understand how worth it the pain is
  • Build associations with rewards for the work that you do
  • Don’t focus as much on the process as compared with getting down to real, hard work

“The current education system doesn’t focus on the right things” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Today’s educational system is not setup for people to learn in a way that will really help them in the future. Because of standardized tests, rules, and regulations, the school system actually encourages people to pump as much information as possible into their brain before a test, and then simply dump it out as soon as they are done with the test.

An educational system that would work much better would be one that focused on teaching people how to think creatively, how to have common sense, and how to have a strong work ethic.

Instead of learning how to memorize facts that anyone can pull up on their phone at a moment’s notice, we should be encouraging students to focus on the skills that will really get them far in life.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The current education system doesn’t focus on the right things
  • Even if they do focus on them, they do so in a boring way
  • The whole school system has turned into pumping info for a test, and then dumping that info after the test
  • We tend to focus on things that are easily understandable, and ignore things that are more complex

“Spend at least a couple hours per day really thinking through what you’re doing in your life” - Tai Lopez

Unintended consequences often negate the good that a regulation or ruling in government is trying to do. In fact, often the problem that was supposed to be solved is simply magnified through the unintended consequences, and the same thing can be true for your life.

That is why I believe that entrepreneurs, and really everyone else as well, need to learn game theory, to understand the various ways in which their decisions will affect other people’s decisions, thereby potentially changing the outcome, and sometimes reversing the good you were trying to do with the decision in the first place.

Listen to this episode to learn more about game theory and how it can apply to the decisions you make.

Points to Keep In Mind

  • A lot of regulations have unintended side effects that must be considered
  • For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
  • Humans have a desire to simplify complex topic to understand them, with the result often being that the wrong conclusion is reached
  • Mother nature always laughs last
  • Entrepreneurs need to understand game theory

Most people simply fall into the relationships that they have, but today we’re talking about how you can, and why you should, strategically think carefully through who you want around you. Because we have found that humans tend to gravitate to become like the people that they spend the most time with, it is of paramount importance that we surround ourselves with only the best kinds of people, and this episode is showing you how to do that.

“A lot of people have paralysis by overanalysis” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Making good money and life decisions is going to be one of the most important skills you will develop. This episode, and this interview with Barry Schwartz, will reveal some of the best ways to make the right decisions, no matter what the decision is about.

Because there are so many options in the world, many people are simply paralyzed and unable to make a decision, because they are under the misunderstanding to an incredibly high level of their happiness is dependant on that decision. Look for good enough, rather than the best, and understand where your happiness really comes from.

The ability to understand yourself, sit down and really come to a deep understanding what is the most important to you, will allow you to be able to take the path that will make you the most happy.

“Look for good enough, instead of the best” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • There is an assumption that more information is better than less, which becomes less and less the case as more information is available
  • In a situation where tons of information is available, people tend to choose based on what is easy to evaluate, versus what is actually best
  • A lot of people have paralysis by overanalysis
  • Look for good enough, instead of the best
  • Too much choice today has given people too high expectations for what the best choice will bring them
  • The first thing you need to do is sit down and define what is the most important to you
  • Hire on the basis of attributes you don’t know how to teach
  • Look for a lot of variety in the types of people who hire
  • Get in the habit of looking for good enough, and then stopping

“Have a varied strategy to life” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Live your life with the constant idea in the back of your mind of what you want written on your tombstone when you die. We all die sometime, some sooner than others, and you simply cannot predict what will happen to you, and how much time you have left.

This is why, regardless of your age, you need to be committed to sucking everything you possibly can out of life. Live it to the fullest, don’t let fear or doubt hold you back, and live in such a way that you can be confident that you will not die with regrets, but knowing you got the most out of your life.

“Stress-reaction is one of the most important success factors in your life” - Tai Lopez

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Don’t be predictable in your approach to life
  • Have a varied strategy to life
  • Conflict resolution is extremely powerful, and you must become a master of conflict resolution
  • Stress-reaction is one of the most important success factors in your life
  • Learn from different people, to get a varied viewpoint on life
  • Diversify how you learn so that you can learn different things from different people
  • Study experts in their field. These are not always the loudest, but look for the most qualified

“Diversify who you learn from” - Tai Lopez

No matter how important you think that networking is, you’re probably underestimating the real value of it. It’s so valuable that you almost can not place enough importance on it. But the way that you network is incredibly important. There is a right way and a wrong way, and on today’s episode I’m telling you what the right way is so that you get the most out of this essential aspect of business.

First of call, don’t worry about email, get phone numbers whenever you can, so that you can text with people. In 2017, texting is where the attention is, and so that is where you should be too.

Listen to the rest of this episode to get all 7 steps to becoming a better business networker.

“A certain minimum amount of extroversion will make you happier” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • It’s not what you know, it’s who you know
  • A certain minimum amount of extroversion will make you happier
  • If you isolate yourself too much, you will not be as happy as you could be
  • If you want to make money, you’re going to have to network even if you’re an introvert
  • Diversify who you learn from
  • Always hire people who have skills that you can’t teach
  • Organisms that only learn through trial and error tend to die out
  • Anyone who is hard to talk to is probably not worth talking to
  • Think of yourself as a goldminer, going through life looking for the nuggets of truth you can find from anyone

The 7-Steps to Better Business Networking

  1. Realize that you are underestimating the power of business networking
  2. If you are not good at networking, attach yourself to someone who is good at it
  3. Get phone numbers instead of emails
  4. Don’t be crazy about follow ups
  5. Follow the reciprocation rule: Speak their language, respect the way that they communicate, and follow those general rules
  6. Leave them hungry for more of you. Don’t be afraid to let them be the last person who texted you
  7. Go to places that are somewhat unexpected for who you are and what you do. Try to cross-pollinate. Focus less on what the event is, but more on how sharp the people are

“Life should not be about going from one pleasant experience to another” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

If you wrote your autobiography right now, would anyone want to read it?

That is the question you should ask, and the test you should give yourself, to find out if you’re truly leading an adventurous life.

Happiness comes, to some extent, from having a life full of experiences, and the more adventurous you are with your life, the more experiences you will have, and the more stories you will be able to tell.

So don’t shy away from them! Live your life to the fullest, and embrace the uncertainty and excitement that comes from living an adventurous life.

“Don’t love the worst parts of yourself, love the best, and be constantly improving” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Too many people are afraid of adventure, and afraid of almost anything different than their normal routine
  • Life should not be about going from one pleasant experience to another
  • Write out the outline of your autobiography right now and be honest with yourself about if anyone would really want to read it
  • What we are is not fixed, and so we should be in the constant process of expanding it
  • Don’t take unnecessary risk, but also do not be a coward
  • Be the person that you admire
  • Don’t love the worst parts of yourself, love the best, and be constantly improving

“Ask yourself right now if anyone would want to read your biography. If not, you need more adventure” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The sense of adventure seems to have gone out of the world. Too many people are spending all of their efforts in creating the most comfortable, pleasant life possible, when in reality comfort doesn’t bring you nearly the kind of happiness and fulfillment that adventure does.

So ask yourself: If you wrote your autobiography today, would anyone besides your family really want to read it?

If people were honest, the answer would be no for most people in the world, and this is simply because they are not prioritizing adventure high enough in their life.

So prioritize adventure! Say yes to as many experiences as you possibly can, and live your life to the fullest. Come back with stories worth telling, and at the end of it all, a life worth reading about.

“Life should be something that you want to get everything you can possibly get out of it” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • The mindset that leads to adventure is lacking in a major way in the world today
  • If you want to know if you are on the right track, right out and honestly outline of your autobiography and ask if anyone else would want to read it
  • Try to live a life of adventure where you don’t have regrets, but you try things and take risks, and come back with great stories
  • Life should be something that you want to get everything you can possibly get out of it
  • Ask yourself right now if anyone would want to read your biography. If not, you need more adventure
  • The essence of adventure is trying things and experimenting with everything
  • Humans are innately risk-averse, but going this route will not lead to as much happiness as a life of adventure
  • What you are is not fixed, but is dynamic and can be expanded and improved on
  • Whatever you admire in others, be that

Points to Keep In Mind

  • “He who has choice, has trouble.” - Danish proverb
  • With less choice, you have less sorrow and regret, BUT, also less happiness
  • Humans tend to get less objective and more emotional, the more important the decision
  • One of the best ways to make a decision is to focus on regret minimization
  • Ask yourself what you will most likely regret NOT doing next year, and do it now
  • Good decisions come from reducing emotion around high-impact decisions you must make
  • Alternating between eating different things, to get a really good variety in your body
  • Listen to your body carefully, and just pay attention to how each thing you eat makes you feel
  • Eat real food instead of tons of supplements, vitamins, etc

“Spend 70% of your time on stuff that works now” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

The way you spend your time is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. Time is the only thing that you can never get more of, making it your most valuable commodity.

Many people neglect focusing on the things that they know will work, and instead spend all of their time on crazy ideas that may or may not pan out. While it is a good idea to give a certain amount of your time to these crazy ideas, as incredible things can potentially come out of them, but are not especially likely.

This way, with your time allocation at these percentages, you can be confident that you are focusing enough on the things that you know will work, but also have the opportunity to take the great strides forward that crazy ideas can bring you.

“Focus on what you KNOW will work ahead of all else” - Tai Lopez

(click to tweet)

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Spend 70% of your time on stuff that works now
  • Spend 20% of your time on stuff that you’re pretty sure will work but you’ve never done before
  • Spend 10% of your time on crazy, hair-brained ideas
  • Focus on what you KNOW will work ahead of all else
  • But understand that you will have to continually innovate
  • Never be the first or last to do an idea
